Something is causing problems with my browser. I just wish I'd found this forum before I had a go at fixing it myself because now don't have anything left in my inbox either... thanks for being here and thanks in advance for helping.

We have now discovered that something (virus or malware?) had changed the DNS address that our router was giving to the windows machines via DHCP, this DNS server (64.86.133.51) was giving incorrect addresses for google, sending us to a server acting as a go-between putting extra junk back into the pages we were seeing. It also blocked access to selected security websites.

We have worked around the problem by manually setting the DNS servers for our ISP into the windows network settings rather than "automatic", have now set router passwords to stop this happening again, but have yet to figure out how to change the router settings so correct DNS servers are used by the router's DHCP process, don't want to reset to factory settings in case it looses the settings to connect to our ISP.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

We are sorry you have waited so long for a response. As you can see, we are quite busy as are all the other help forums. Also, it is possible that you received no response because there was no malware evident in your HijackThis log.

If you still require help, please start a new topic and post a fresh HijackThis log, along with a complete description of all symptoms you are currently experiencing that make you feel your system is infected with malware. Also, in the same post, please include an Uninstall List.

To create an Uninstall List, open HijackThis and, from the Main Menu > click on the "Open the Misc Tools section" button > click "Open Uninstall Manager" > click "Save List." Save the list to your Desktop or any convenient location. Next, copy the contents of the Uninstall List and paste it into the same post as your HijackThis log.
