Pop ups and Firefox won't run. (Trojans)

Unread postby paultaylor_206727 » March 5th, 2009, 12:44 pm

Hi, I am having succes with 'davis' helping me out with my home computer, now need some help with my work computer.

When on the internet, it is super slow, IE has pop ups, Firefox (browser of choice) no longer works - have even uninstalled and re-installed with no results.
Running hotmail seems to jam up and can't reply at times or sign out function stalls.
Running programs such as Adobe InDesign - system says that I am out of disk space even though I have 200 gb of disk space remaining.

We found trojans on the computer and tried to clear them but not sure if they are gone.
Thanks for any Help.

Paul

Hi paultaylor_206727,

Welcome to MRU. My name is davis. I will be helping you to fix your malware problems.
If your issues have been resolved or already received help elsewhere, then please let us know. If not, and still need help. Please follow the instructions in the following.
In the meantime, please refrain from making any changes to your computer. Please rescan your computer and post a new HJT log and an Uninstall List.

Make an Uninstall List

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button
5. Click on the Save list button
6. It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default, it's named uninstall_list.txt.
7. Copy and paste the contents in your next reply and a fresh HJT log.

In your next reply, please post back:

1.New HJT log
2.Uninstall list Thanks.

Hi davis,

Just a little run down on what has been happening.. continual IE pop ups, Firefox fails to run at all, repeated dll files are trying to run but WinPatrol and Spybot pop them up asking to run or deny. (I should probably remove one of the two software??)
When running IE functions with sites like hotmail are slow or sometimes require a double click, where it should normally be single click. (that makes me nervous.... for some reason)

Thanks for taking the time to help me with this!
Paul

Hi paultaylor_206727,

I am sorry but I must inform you that I cannot assist you with removing malware from this computer due to MWR policy Here:

In General, we do not help in cleaning business or corporate computers. There may be restrictions and modifications installed on such machines that could be damaged or altered by the actions we take to remove Malware. There may also be legal issues regarding any loss of business data that we do not wish to deal with. If you ask for help and, unknown to us, it involves a business computer, you need to understand that any damages resulting from our advice are YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.

Since there are many complicated issues related to fixing a corporate computer or business computer, I can't give you more advice about dealing with this work computer. I should have noticed this situation and advised you beforehand. I am sorry for any inconvenience, and I thank you for your understanding.

If this computer has been connected to a network, other computers on the same network may have become infected. Therefore, my advice is to immediately inform your IT department so they may take immediate steps to inspect other computers that may have been exposed to this infection, and assist you with cleaning up your system as well. If you do not have an IT department, then you should have someone come in and inspect other computers that are connected to the network, and clean your system as well. It is quite possible that your IT department may decide it is in the best interest of the company for your computer to be reformatted and the operating system reinstalled.

Best of luck to you.
