New User Created & Google Links not working

Unread postby Dr Tim » March 2nd, 2009, 3:28 pm

My Laptop kind of created a new user for me about a month ago, I booted up my computer it loaded up my user apart from with a different desktop background, and MicroSoft Office etc was not working as it had to be reinstalled. Also all of 'My Documents' had disappeared, after searching around on my hard drive, I found C:\Documents and Settings, in this was a folder with the names 'Tim', 'Tim.TIMSLAPTOP', 'Default User' (Hidden File), 'All Users' and 'Administrator'. I had never noticed 'Tim.TIMSLAPTOP' before so I went inside and worked out that this was the user that I was logged into. And 'Tim' was my old one. I have no way to switch back to 'Tim' as it does not show up on the user menu or anything.

Also another problem is that when I click on most google links, this comes up in the address bar:

hxxp://clickfraudmanager.com/check.php? ... hijackthis <---- That was what I searched

Edit: Also I have been getting this message quite a lot:

Windows Must now restart because the DCOM server process launcher service terminated unexpectedly.

Thats in a little box with a countdown timer saying when its going to shutdown.
Edit: The above keeps happening now and it is really starting to get annoying.

Hello! :hello2: and welcome to the Malware Removal forums.
I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research so please be patient while I work on your log and I will post back here with any recommendations.

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Step 1:
Please download DDS and save it to your desktop.
  • Disable any script blocking protection
  • Double click dds.scr to run the tool.
  • When done, DDS will open two (2) logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt
  • Save both reports to your desktop.
Please include the contents of both logs in your next reply. The scan will instruct you to post the attach log as an attachment. No need for that though ..... just post it as you would any other log.

Step 2:
Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here.
  • Extract the contents of the zipped file to desktop.
  • Double click GMER.exe. If asked to allow gmer.sys driver to load, please consent .
  • If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO.
  • In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Uncheck the following ...
    • Sections
    • IAT/EAT
    • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    • Show All (don't miss this one)
  • Then click the Scan button & wait for it to finish.
  • Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in ark.txt
Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop then post the contents here.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take action on any <---- ROOKIT entries

Logs to Post:
Please post the following to your next reply:
  • The 2 logs from DDS
  • The Gmer report

Due to a lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
