Firefox tabs slow and MSIE unwanted redirect

The computer seems fine now. Actually my laptop was the clean one and the one I used initially to communicate with you when our two desktops were bogged down with problems.
With your concurrence, I think it is time to clean up my computer of the tools we used to fix my machine. What is next?

Yep, time to clear up.

The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Click Start > Run and copy/paste the following bolded text into the Run box and click OK:

ComboFix /u



CLEAN UP

Let's clear out the programs we've been using to clean up your computer, they are not suitable for general malware removal and could cause damage if used inappropriately.

• Double-click OTMoveIt3.exe. (Vista users, please right click on OTMoveit3.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  
• Click the CleanUp! button.
  
• Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
  
• If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  
• The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.

Hi Dan,
ComboFix uninstalled fine and OTMoveIT3 as well. Computer seems fine and I've be able to pare down the HJT processed scan list to less than one page.
I can't thank you enough and do I need to do anything else to close out this thread as a success?

Well done John,

You don't need to put all of these programs on your system unlike your Antivirus and firewall of which you can only have one of each.
However you can have several Antimalware programs

The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.

Hi Dan,
Thanks for all the links to programs to keep things clean. I will add my name and info to the reporting the problem database. I will be much more cautious going forward.

I have been uninstalling unused programs on my wife's desktop computer and generally poking around. I've looked at her HJT logs and don't see anything(with my entry level expertise)that is grossly out of order.

I ran a check with my AV ESET Nod32, Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware and found nothing wrong. I downloaded and ran an updated Kaspersky online scan and foung remanants of various
infections(Email-Worm.VBS.Kakworm, Virus.MSWord.Class.d, Trojan-Spy.HTML.Fraud.gen and Exploit.HTML.Iframe.FileDownload).

These are all contained in her MS Outlook Express "sent items.dbx" and in what I think to be the Recycle bin(lines show as C:\RECYCLER\..........to a final file such as Dc2701.bak).

I don't care about the recycle bin and it can be nuked. The problem I see is; Is there any way to "clean" the problems contained in her "sent items.dbx" without having to wipe out the whole file? I would like to keep a record of most of the sent items and hope there is a way.

I would appreciate your input but understand with your workload that I may have to start a new thread. I do think this could be handled rather quickly as I'm familar with you and some of the tools used.

I appreciate you agreeing to assist with the cleanup of my wife's desktop. I'll be glad to post a new thread and will put you in the topic title. The title will be "Virus/Malware in MS Outlook Express sent items database, is parsing possible? Attention of dan12." I'll lead off with HJT and Kaspersky logs.
BTW I meant that it would be ok to nuke the contents of the recycle bin.
