Security Suite Software malfunction

Unread postby 167Nelson » January 15th, 2009, 5:32 pm

I'm using Wndows XP-SP2 and MSN 9.0 with a wireless LAN internet connection to Verizon FIOS. After browsing to a website I was redirected me to an "Internet Explorer" page warning of trojan infestations on my computer, locking out any navigation control from my keyboard and mouse, and directing me to "accept" (click "yes") a download of software to scan my computer. The alternative choice was "Cancel" which simply looped back the same warning page. I invoked the Microsoft Task Manager and ended the current task (MSN) to recover control of my desktop. I ran malware detection software and deleted a few ADware files. The computer seems to operate normally except that I now have a persistent pop-up labeled "Verizon Internet Security Suite" with the following text. "The settings we were attempting to process are corrupted and unusable. Restoring a backup may solve the problem." Choices presented are to see "Details" or to click "OK." Either way the pop-up persists. I suspect that my regisry has been altered either by the hard-sell web page I was redirected to or by the action I took to break my link to it. My HiJackThis log is as follows:

Hello and welcome to Malware Removal.

My name is km2357 and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

I will be giving you a series of instructions that need to be followed in the order in which I give them to you.

If for any reason you do not understand an instruction or are just unsure then please do not guess, simply post back with your questions/concerns and we will go through it again.

Please do not start another thread or topic, I will assist you at this thread until we solve your problems.

Lastly the fix may take several attempts and my replies may take some time but I will stick with it if you do the same.

Sorry for the delay in replying, the forum is very busy. If you still need help, please post a fresh HiJackThis Log.
