unable to get win xp home recovered

Unread postby allenpalisade » January 11th, 2009, 10:50 pm

compaq presario 2100 running xp home sp 2 --- suddenly started showing 'message box' and will not run.
system goes through all start as 'normal' -- then have message box 'xxxx.exe application error' 'the application failed to initialize properly (0xc000005) click on OK to terminate the application'
get several of these and then when cleared -- still cannot get full windows functions.

since windows does not run -- any corrections need to allow for running from boot cd.

have run chkdsk several times and does report finding and fixing errors --but still have same issues on start.

have read microsoft kb 873155 and much of it appears to apply - but did not have Norton clean sweep running.

Please advise if this post should be in different forum on this site.

You can post a HijackThis log to see if malware is the problem.
