warning your system is in danger.your computer needs scannin

Unread postby kalona » January 9th, 2009, 7:54 pm

Hi,

My system has been infected since the past two days with some virus which turned off my task manager. Changes my desktop background with warning messages and keeps popping up windows with adverts to buy 'real anti-virus'. It keeps displaying messages on every page in my browser. Messages such as "warning your system is in danger. your computer is in need of full scanning" and umpteen other similar ones. I am not able to work properly in the normal mode so i am using safe mode. I have scanned and removed many suspicious files but the problem persists. Here is the log file from my scan. Please help me. Thanks a lot.

Hello and welcome to the Malware Removal Forums

I will be assisting you with your Malware issues.

IMPORTANT

  • Whatever repairs we make, are for fixing your computer problems only and by no means should be used on another computer.
  • Continue to respond to this thread until I give you the All Clean!
  • If you have any questions or are unsure in anyway, please let me know. I will try my best to help you!
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • As I am still in training, everything that I post to you, must be checked by one of the teachers. Therefore, there may be a slight delay between posts.

Make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:
  • Start HijackThis
  • Click on the Config button
  • Click on the Misc Tools button
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
  • Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Save the file to your desktop.

Please post this log on your next reply.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I actually scanned the system with Malware bytes Anti-malware, SuperAntiSpyware and I dont get the annoying messages anymore. But now I am unable to connect to the internet even though I am connected to the network either wirelessly or through cable. I can ping with 0% loss but i am not able to connect to the internet. And my firefox doesn't work ( it displays some html code everytime I start it) so I uninstalled my firefox. I don't know if this is because of the virus. But here is the list you asked me to post. Thank you once again.

Hi Kalona, Sounds like you are having a time of it :(

Quick question regarding processes I see running in your log. Are you a student and do you use this computer at a school or University?

A malicious .DLL file is disrupting the LSP chain on your computer. We need to get rid of it.
  1. Please download LSPFix from here. If you have access to another computer that can access the internet you can download it to a Flash drive or CD and then install on the computer having troubles
  2. Disconnect from the internet and run the LSPFix.exe that you have just finished downloading.
  3. Check the I know what I'm doing box.
  4. In the Keep box you should see one or more instances of ntdll64.dll
  5. Select every instance of ntdll64.dll and move each one to the Remove box by clicking the >> button.
  6. When you are done click Finish>>.

Now before we start cleaning your computer I would like you to:-

Remove one of your Anti Virus programs.
You are operating your computer with multiple Anti Virus programs running in memory at once:
Avira
Symantec /Norton

Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.

Please remove one of them.

Also:-

Disabling Programs That May Interfere With The Fix
You have one (or more) of these programs running on your machine. While this is a good thing, they may interfere with the next part of the fix for your problem.

Windows Defender
Ad-aware

Disable Ad-Aware 2007
Disable Ad-Aware 2007 as it may interfere with repairs.
  • Click Settings>Auto Scans
  • Under Scan on Ad-Aware startup, be sure both selections for No automated scan are checked (green)
  • Click Save then close Ad-Aware

Disable Windows Defender until the computer is clean
Microsoft Defender normally provides real-time protection from spyware, however it may interfere with what we need to do. We will disable it until the machine is clean, then it can be re-enabled.
  • Open Windows Defender
  • Select Tools then Options
  • Scroll down to Real Time Protection Options & uncheck Use real-time protection (recommended)
  • Select Save
Don't forget to re-enable it, when your computer is clean.

Once you have done the above I would like you to try and REBOOT in NORMAL MODE and post back with a New Hijack This log

Due to lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
