Pop-up ads appear on startup despite cleaning

Unread postby huckleberry2727 » January 7th, 2009, 1:50 am

The issue is that a number of ads appear when I open the internet (randomly, not every time) and appear to be slowing operation of my PC.

I have used Spybot, which identifies "Right Media" and a tracking cookie. I use Spybot to try to fix it but it continually appears after each restart.

Simlarly, I also have used Super Anti-Spyware which reveals cookies, and after cleaning them, prompts me to restart for the cleaning to take effect. However, the same cookies invariably reappear after startup.

Welcome huckleberry 2727

Apologies for the late reply. As you can appreciate the boards are quite busy. If you still require help with your computer problem could you do the following:

MRU P2P Policy
IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

BitTorrent

I'd like you to read the MRU policy for P2P Programs.
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red) & any other P2P programs.

Random's System Information Tool (RSIT)
  • Download Random's System Information Tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run the tool
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open, log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)
  • Copy & paste the contents of both logs in your next reply

Due to lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
