Keylogged maybe?

Unread postby Dr Tim » December 28th, 2008, 7:33 am

I think I am keylogged, money has dissapeared from my PayPal account, MSN display messages have changes, and other various things. I have done virus scans with Spybot, Ad-Aware, AVG Free, a squared, Spyware Terminator, and also I have tried some system restores but they are never successful. Anyway, here is my HiJackThis Log File:

Welcome to the Forums.

The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine.

Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread.
If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. So lets do this to the end!

  • Save and quit any work your doing before beginning the fix.
  • All hijackthis logs I ask for should be done in normal mode ( not safe mode)
  • These logs should be done last after you have followed my instructions in the previous post.
  • If I do not hear from you in 5 days from my last post this topic will be closed.

Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!

If you suspect someone has gotten your passwords and other financial information I suggest the following immedialty.

  • Call all of your banks, credit card companies, financial institutions and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and to put a watch on your accounts or change all your account numbers.
  • From a clean computer, change *all* your online passwords -- for email, for banks, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, online companies, any online forums or groups you belong to.
  • Do NOT change passwords or do any transactions while using the infected computer because the attacker will get the new passords and transaction information.

RUN HJT

HJT
Run hijackthis and choose scan only and place a check by the following lines if present.
Close all other windows and browsers except HJT before clicking on Fix Checked

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Explorer] C:\Program Files\Explorer\UltiCrackv2.exe
O16 - DPF: {CF40ACC5-E1BB-4AFF-AC72-04C2F616BCA7} -

Close that.

_____________________________
Submit a file to Jotti
Please go here : http://virusscan.jotti.org/
On top of the page there is a field to add the filepath, copy and paste this filepath in there.
If theres is more than one file to scan, insert them 1 at a time.

C:\Program Files\Explorer\UltiCrackv2.exe

Then hit Submit
The scan will take a while before the result comes up so please be patient.
Then copy the result and post it here in this thread.

You may recieve a message stating "
"The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file"

Just let me know if that is what you saw.

If Jotti's service load is too high, you can use the following scanner instead:
http://www.virustotal.com/xhtml/index_en.html

Ok, first of thanks for helping me out.

When uploading the 'UltiCrackV2', I got the message 'The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file'.

Before that I used HiJackThis, and fixed the problems that you stated, here is the log I get now:

Edit: I've just realised, well it actually happened a few days ago, but when I open a new tab in IE7, I get the message:

The webpage cannot be displayed
Some content or files on this webpage require a program that you don't have installed.

And in the address bar it says: tbr:res?id=tabs&rep=1

I'm pretty sure it used to be something different like 'You've open a new tab!'.

Anyway, thanks.

Ok, yeah, I have done those scans now, sorry for the delay the first time I did the scans, my laptop randomly decided to turn itself off for some reason. Also, is there anything I can do to speed up my computer? Apart from CCleaner, and disk defrag?

Re: Keylogged maybe?

Unread postby Bob4 » January 2nd, 2009, 6:13 pm

That folder is being stubborn I think. Also while we're at it, if it's available, I would like you to upload a copy of a file for our experts to examine.
Only takes a few seconds and will help others later on.

Go to this link
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/submit- ... channel=36

Where it says :
Link to topic where this file was requested:
copy this in.
http://www.malwareremoval.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=388385#p388385

Where it says
Browse to the file you want to submit::

C:\Program Files\Explorer\UltiCrackv2.exe

Then click send file.

___________________________________
Search for and remove
Now I want you to search for and delete the following folder and all it's contents if present. If you need help finding them.
Click start /search/ all files and folders/ look for More advanced options. once in there select the first 3 boxes.
Please just remove the files/folders I listed in BOLD

C:\Program Files\Explorer

C:\Program Files\Cain\Abel.exe

Explorer is a common name so just delete the one I'm asking you to located in the "Programs files" folder.

______________________________
RUN HJT

HJT
Run hijackthis and choose scan only and place a check by the following lines if present.
Close all other windows and browsers except HJT before clicking on Fix Checked

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

Close that.

_________________________
In your next reply I would like to see:
  • A new HJT log
  • Let me know how the upload went
  • Were you able to delete both of those files ?

Hey, I managed to delete the Abel.exe, but when I went to program files, there was no folder or file called Explorer.
It uploaded the file successfully.
I fixed the line using HJT, and here is a new log:

Btw, could you just explain to me what this Explorer thing is?

Remember in the beginning we deleted this line?
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Explorer] C:\Program Files\Explorer\UltiCrackv2.exe

That line has reference to a file in a folder called Explorer. That folder is not legitimate and according to Jotti results is not a legitimate file within that folder.
Now where it is getting complicated is that you can't find the file but what I had you upload you said uploaded successfully. Meaning that file inside that folder may exist.

Dr Tim wrote:but when I went to program files, there was no folder or file called Explorer.
It uploaded the file successfully.
Image

So here,s what I would like you to do.

___________________________________
Reconfigure Windows XP to show hidden files::

Click Start. My Computer.
Select the Tools menu Folder Options. Select the View Tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading select "Show hidden files and folders".
Uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
Uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.

Now look for and delete it if you find it.

c:/Program Files/Explorer

In the meantime I am going to check and see if that file did end up getting uploaded. Please let me know if you were able to find that folder.

Here is a link of what 'My Computer' looks like:

http://i39.tinypic.com/2w4zq6w.jpg

As you can see there is no toolbar, if thats what its called, do you have any idea how to get this back?

And my AVG is out-of-date and is always failing to update, can you suggest another program that I use to replace AVG?

The file uploaded was zero bytes so it probably isn't there.

As you can see there is no toolbar, if thats what its called, do you have any idea how to get this back?

Open MY COMPUTER
Right click on the top in that white empty bar and choose
Standard buttons
do it again and choose
Address bar

And my AVG is out-of-date and is always failing to update, can you suggest another program that I use to replace AVG?

1. Download one of these anti virus programs . DO NOT run 2 anti virus programs together. Do not install it yet.
Avast

Avira AntiVir Personal Edition Classic

2. Disconnect form the internet so your not on it with out protection.
3.Remove AVG through add/remove programs.
4. Install the new anti virus program
5. reconnect to the internet

I see no evidence of a fire wall. I suggest you get one in place now.

A few words on Microsofts firewall in XP . It only works in one direction. Incoming.
That means if something gets by it you would never know it was trying
to contact the internet.
Example: A bad program installs itself. You would never know it was contacting the internet.
Downloading other nasties and so forth.

If you decide to run one of these you should be certain Microsofts firewall is disabled.
To disable it.

I will list a few free firewalls for you. These are good (free) firewalls:

Never run 2 firewalls together. They will interfere with each other.
So just download and install one!

Firewalls
Comodo If choosing this one be sure to UNCHECK install ask tool bar during installation,

Sunbelt Personal Firewall

Online armor Firewall

Does this mean I don't need to install another FireWall?

http://i43.tinypic.com/w6woau.jpg

I need a new anti-virus though, I am currently downloading Avast I think it is.

As I see no evidence of a firewall other than Windows firewall that means windows firewall is on.

I would disable that and learn to use a better software firewall. It will take a few days for it to learn a few things but will really help protect you.

Fully reread my last post to see how to disable windows firewall.

Ok, I downloaded Chomodo, and Avast. With Chomodo, after I restarted my laptop, first of all, it came up saying there was a new network...Me and my family have a home network, so I thought it might have been that? So I clicked Ok.

Then loads of pop-ups started coming up about whether to let like TeaTimer.exe do something. I pressed accept to the ones which I knew what they were like TeaTimer.exe and SvGhost, and blocked some others.

Also, when I started up my laptop, a black screen came up and said 'Invalid INI File [New Line] Booting From c:\windows'.

Here is a new HiJackThis log anyway:
