Hey,

For the past 3 weeks iv been having a very sluggish computer, I thought a bit of a clean up would sort things out, So i cleaned with CCleaner, Defragged it, Ran Kaspersky Anti-Virus, Spybot, Spysweeper and AVG Anti Spyware and still the same, Lately changing a track on WMP even when no programs are open it takes around 30-45 seconds to do it. Opening a program like opening HiJackThis took about a minute to open. When firefox is closed and nothing else is open its still running in the background at a mem usage of around 150,000 and the CPU reaches 100% and stays there.

Just looking at the code, Something install the Yahoo toolbar, I always choose the advanced options when installing a program so i dont install things like toolbars. Also svchost.exe runs quite alot sometimes on the Task manager.

Hi Jaymie1989

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

Reason for slowness is here:

Total RAM: 958 MB (11% free)

You have very little RAM. As RAM is pretty cheap nowadays, I recommend that you buy another 1 gig if motherboard allows it.

For general slowness, see here and post back if it helped :)

I understand that but up until about 5 or 6 days ago it was perfect, none of this slowness or problems. Iv cleaned my computer, defragged it and all that other stuff, so i think there is something that is causing this.

Nothing that install programs and remove them,

The Yahoo tool bar gets me becuase as i say i always choose the advanced option on installing programs so i dont install toolbars and other rubbish programs that i dont need. I know the risks of them, But after removing them in the Add/Remove Programs there still a record of them on my pc

It comes bundled with many programs.

CCleaner is one them for example.

We can run one scan to be sure that there is nothing malware related:

Download gmer.zip and save to your desktop.
alternate download site 1
alternate download site 2

  • Unzip/extract the file to its own folder. (Click here for information on how to do this if not sure. Win 2000 users click here.
  • When you have done this, disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs.
There is a small chance this application may crash your computer so save any work you have open.
  • Double-click on Gmer.exe to start the program.
  • Allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
  • If it gives you a warning at program start about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a scan...click NO.
  • Click on "Settings", then check the first five settings:
    *System Protection and Tracing
    *Processes
*Save created processes to the log
    *Drivers
*Save loaded drivers to the log
  • You will be prompted to restart your computer. Please do so.

Run Gmer again and click on the Rootkit tab.
  • Look at the right hand side (under Files) and uncheck all drives with the exception of your C drive.
  • Make sure all other boxes on the right of the screen are checked, EXCEPT for "Show All".
  • Click on the "Scan" and wait for the scan to finish.
Note: Before scanning, make sure all other unning programs are closed and no other actions like a scheduled antivirus scan will occur while this scan completes. Also do not use your computer during the scan.
  • When completed, click on the Copy button and right-click on your Desktop, choose "New" > Text document. Once the file is created, open it and right-click again and choose Paste or Ctrl+V. Save the file as gmer.txt and copy the information in your next reply.
  • Note: If you have any problems, try running GMER in SAFE MODE"
Important! Please do not select the "Show all" checkbox during the scan.

Due to lack of Response this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
