Getting Redirected / No connection to updates for AntiVirus

Unread postby Midgey » December 2nd, 2008, 1:57 am

HI Here's the problem(s):
1) When using google to search, I usually get redirected to some other type of "yellowpages search" or some other type of search host. Anything but what I initially wanted to go to. When searching on google I have to actually cut and paste the address of the site from google search query into search bar at top of screen in order to get where I wanna go. I think this maybe linked to my next problem somehow??
Question: Why do I get re-directed to other search hosts?

2) I had AVG Free as anti-virus protector. I lost the ability recently to be able to update AVG free. I have since deleted AVG Free and downloaded Avira Antivirus Free and I am experiencing the same thing. I am unable to connect to the server for updating the anti virus program. Ad Aware had the same problem.
I also have Spybot- Search and Destroy in which the update seems to work just fine.
Question: Why can't I download any updates for anti virus and related products?

Re: Getting Redirected / No connection to updates for AntiVirus

Hi

Both your questions are related to redirection issue. Let's try to resolve it.

Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running ComboFix tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:

  1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix, link
    Remember to re-enable them afterwards.

  2. Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt
New HijackThis log.

A word of warning: Neither I nor sUBs are responsible for any damage you may have caused your machine by running ComboFix. This tool is not a toy and not for everyday use.

Due to lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
