Popups and browser stalls

Unread postby zurch » December 3rd, 2008, 12:24 pm

I get frequent popups and my browser will just stall if I click a link. Will work OK if I right-click and select open in new window.

Welcome zurch

I will be helping you under the guidance of one of our expert coaches.
Please give me a little time to get back to you with instructions.

In the meantime please note the following:
  • Any recommendations made are for your computer problems only and should NOT be used on any other computer.
  • Please DO NOT run any scans/tools or other fixes unless I ask you to. This is very important for several reasons. Here are just two of them:
    1. The tools that we use are very powerful and can cause >>irreparable damage<< to your computer if not used correctly.
    2. Commercial scanners, for the most part can not completely remove some of the more "resistant" infections. This makes it much more difficult to get rid of completely.
  • If you get stuck or are unsure of something please ask for a further explanation, do not guess.
  • A lack of symptoms does not necessarily mean your computer is clean.
  • Continue to respond to this thread until I give you the All Clean!
Please Note: My instructions to you are checked by an expert prior to posting. This may cause a small delay between posts.
Thanks

I'd also like to see a list of installed programs so please do this:
Create an Uninstall List
  • Start HijackThis
  • Click on the Config button
  • Click on the Misc Tools button
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button
  • Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file
  • When you press the Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file
  • Copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in your next reply

Hi zurch

Looking at the HijackThis log you've supplied, the set up and the software running makes it look like the computer is a business or company computer. If this is the case, you would be best to contact your IT/Computing team for help as there may be specific settings that only they would know about. We, at Malware Removal, would not know these specific settings and may innocently make changes that could cause some of your computer's functions to stop working.

Can you please confirm whether your computer is a personal or company computer.

Thanks

It is a little of both. I work from home and there is no one else responsible for this computer's configuration.

Hello zurch

I'm sorry but I cannot help you with your computer problem. I refer you to Our User Rules - Please Read:
In General, we do not help in cleaning business or corporate computers. There may be restrictions and modifications installed on such machines that could be damaged or altered by the actions we take to remove Malware. There may also be legal issues regarding any loss of business data that we do not wish to deal with.

The online anti-malware community primarily serves home users and is therefore not ideally suited to deal with situations that are best handled by a company's own IT department. All companies have their own set of policies and procedures for handling situations like this, which are beyond our sphere of knowledge. Therefore, as this computer has been identified as infected, you are strongly advised to immediately seek the assistance of your company's IT department or whoever deals with their computer issues so they may implement their own preferred method for handling this situation.
