Hello! :hello2: and welcome to the Malware Removal forums.
I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research so please be patient while I work on your log and I will post back here with any recommendations.

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Step 1:
Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.

  • Right-click mbam-setup.exe and select Run as Administrator then follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
  • Post that log back here.

Step 2:
  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Right click on RSIT.exe and select Run as Administrator to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<< will be maximized) and info.txt (<< will be minimized)

Re: Removing Antivirus 2009 - Vista

Unread postby Rodav » December 5th, 2008, 7:50 pm

Things are looking better, how are things running? Do you recognise this folder? C:\vid box

Step 1:
Download OTMoveIt3 by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
  • Rght click on OTMoveit3.exe and select "Run as an Administrator"
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below.
Code: Select all
:files
C:\Windows\system32\WS2Fix.exe
C:\Windows\system32\VCCLSID.exe
C:\Windows\system32\VACFix.exe
C:\Windows\system32\swxcacls.exe
C:\Windows\system32\swsc.exe
C:\Windows\system32\swreg.exe
C:\Windows\system32\SrchSTS.exe
C:\Windows\system32\Process.exe
C:\Windows\system32\o4Patch.exe
C:\Windows\system32\IEDFix.exe
C:\Windows\system32\IEDFix.C.exe
C:\Windows\system32\dumphive.exe
C:\Windows\system32\404Fix.exe
C:\Program Files\BitLord

  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3

Step 2:
Note for Vista Users: Eset is compatible but Internet Explorer must be run as Administrator. To do this, right-click on the IE icon in the Start Menu or Quick Launch Bar on the Taskbar and select "Run as Administrator" from the context menu. Try not to surf around while running IE as Administrator.

Run Eset NOD32 Online AntiVirus
http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner
Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer for this scan.
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Disable your current Antivirus software. You can usually do this with its Notfication Tray icon near the clock.
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option "Remove found threats" is Un-checked, and the option "Scan unwanted applications" is checked
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Re-enable your Anvirisus software.
  • A logfile is created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please include this on your post.

Step 3:
Run HijackThis (right click > Run as Administrator) then post the new HijackThis log along with the NOD32 results, OTMoveIT3 results and a description about how your computer is running.

The online anti virus page show the accept terms of use page, then when i click start i get a http 404 page saying the page cant be found and is the address typed wrong or a link out of date?

I will try again later today ?

Other than that i am aware of what c:vid box is and its a safe file.

The online scan should work providing you are using Internet Explorer running as admin. If you can't get it to work, I will give you an alternative if you can't get ESET to work.

Update your Java.
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.
  • Close any programs you may have running, ESPECIALLY your web browser
  • Click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment, JRE, J2SE, or Java Webstart in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove all installed versions of Java.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment(JRE) and install it to your computer.

If you can't get ESET online scanner to work please use this one.
Note: Right clickInternet Explorer and select Run as Administrator.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.
  • Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  • It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  • When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
    • Archives
    • Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan and then put the kettle on!
  • Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  • You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  • Save this report to a convenient place like your Desktop. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  • Copy and paste the report into your next reply along with a fresh HJT log and a description of how your PC is behaving.

As far as PC Behaviour all is good at this stage - I have not seen the pop ups any more so looks promising. concerning though that there are still suspiscous files in the guest log in according to the virus scan.

The suspicious files in the guest account are webpages that were used to download the malware you had. We can clear them out now but you should also log into your guest account and clear out your temp files in case their are any other leftovers in them. Things are looking good though from here. :)

Step 1:
  • Run HijackThis (Right click > Run as Administrator)
  • Click on the Scan button
  • Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):

    O2 - BHO: Google Toolbar Helper - {AA58ED58-01DD-4d91-8333-CF10577473F7} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar1.dll (file missing)
    O3 - Toolbar: &Google - {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar1.dll (file missing)

  • Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
  • Click on the "Fix Checked" button
  • When completed, close the application and Restart your computer.

Step 2:
  • Right click on OTMoveit3.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Copy the lines in the codebox below.
Code: Select all
C:\Users\Guest\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\GN0NK83J\_freescan[1].htm
C:\Users\Guest\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\XG8K30GB\_freescan[1].htm
C:\Users\Guest\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\XG8K30GB\_freescan[2].htm
C:\Users\Guest\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\YJTZV7X1\_freescan[1].htm
C:\Users\Guest\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\YJTZV7X1\_freescan[2].htm

If the above steps went without incident you can proceed with the following steps, otherwise let me know.

Step 3:
  • Right click on OTMoveit3.exe and select "Run as an Administrator")
  • Click the CleanUp! button.
  • Select Yes when the "Begin cleanup Process?" prompt appears.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes, if not delete it by yourself.
You can also delete RSIT.exe and any log produced.

Step 4:
Create a new, clean System Restore point

  1. Click on Start > Control Panel.
  2. Double click on System.
  3. On the left, click on the System Protection link.
  4. At the bottom right hand corner, click on the Create... button.
  5. Give this System Restore point a descriptive name and click on Create.
  6. You should receive a prompt that a System Restore point is created successfully. Click OK to confirm.
  7. Click OK again to close the System Protection window. Then close Control Panel.

Warning: Do not clear infected System Restore points before creating a new System Restore point first!

Please read the above to create a new System Restore point first, then clear out the infected System Restore points.

Clear infected System Restore points

  1. Click on Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools.
  2. Right click on Disk Cleanup and select Run As Administrator to run it. UAC will prompt. Allow it.
  3. Select your C drive and click OK.
  4. Select the More Options tab.
  5. Under System Restore and Shadow Copies, click on the Clean up... button.
  6. You will receive a prompt. Click on Delete to delete the old System Restore points.
  7. When done, click OK. You will receive another prompt. Click Delete Files to confirm.
  8. When done, Disk Cleanup will automatically close.

Your logs are now clean. :D :D
If you still feel you are having any issues please let me know now, otherwise read through the following:

Please take the time to tell us what you would like to be done about the people who are behind all the problems you have had. We can only get something done about this if the people that we help, like you, are prepared to complain. We have a dedicated forum for collecting these complaints Malware Complaints, you need to be registered to post as unfortunately we were hit with too many spam posting to allow guest posting to continue just find your country room and register your complaint.

Below are some steps to follow in order to dramatically lower the chances of reinfection
You may have already implemented some of the steps below, however you should follow any steps that you have not already implemented
  • Make sure you install all the security updates for Windows, Internet explorer & Microsoft Office
Whenever a security problem in its software is found, Microsoft will usually create a patch for it to that after the patch is installed, attackers can't use the vulnerability to install malicious software on your PC, so keeping up with these patches will help to prevent malicious software being installed on your PC
Go here to check for & install updates to Microsoft applications
Note: The update process uses activex, so you will need to use internet explorer for it, and allow the activex control that it wants to install
  • Keep your non-Microsoft applications updated as well
Microsoft isn't the only company whose products can contain security vulnerabilities, to check for other vulnerable programs running on your PC that are in need of an update, you can use the Secunia Software Inspector - I suggest that you run it at least once a month
  • Make Internet Explorer more secure
    Click Start > Run
    Type Inetcpl.cpl & click OK
    Click on the Security tab
Click Reset all zones to default level
Make sure the Internet Zone is selected & Click Custom level
In the ActiveX section, set the first two options ("Download signed and unsigned ActiveX controls) to "Prompt", and ("Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe") to "Disable".
Next Click OK, then Apply button and then OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Install a Hosts File
    I recommend MVPS Hosts File
Every version of windows includes a hosts file as part of them. A hosts file is a bit like a phone book, it points to the actual numeric address (i.e. the IP address) from the human friendly name of a website. This feature can be used to block malicious websites
On some PCs, having a custom HOSTS file installed can cause a significant slowdown. Following these instructions should resolve the issue
    • Click Start > Run
    • Type services.msc & click OK
    • In the list, find the service called DNS Client & double click on it.
    • On the dropdown box, change the setting from automatic to manual.
    • Click OK & then close the Services window
For a more detailed explanation of the HOSTS file, click here
  • Download and install the free version of WinPatrol. This program protects your computer in a variety of ways and will work well with your existing security software. Have a look at this tutorial to help you get started with the program. If you want to help the developer of the program and get more information about what the programs that you see in Winpatrol please check out Winpatrol Plus. It does not need a new download.
  • The last and most important thing I can tell you is UPDATE, UPDATE, UPDATE.
If you don't update your security programs (Antivirus, Antispyware, even Windows) then you are at risk.
Malware changes on a day to day basis. You should update every week at the very least.

Sorry Paul, I never pasted in the correct header into the codebox.
As long as you cleared out all the temp files they should be gone and you can move onto the other steps.
