New Hijackthis Log File

Unread postby therealrowdy1 » November 21st, 2008, 3:26 pm

All, Hello. My computer has been having difficulty accessing web pages and is running quite slowly. I receive numerous notifications that my computer is unable to connect to IE when browsing. Wasn't sure if MalWare is the issue, but I thought I'd start here. Any help is appreciated. Here is my log file. Thanks!

Hi therealrowdy1

Have you set this proxy server?

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=69.19.14.10:3128

Shaba,

I'm not exactly sure I understand the question. Sorry.

If it helps, I'm not aware of what a proxy server is or does...Maybe if you helped me understand what setting up a proxy server would do, it might help clear up my confusion.

Again, not the sharpest IT knife in the drawer. Thanks for your assistance

That entry means that IE uses this server for all connections (= all data goes out and comes in via it):

69.19.14.10

So if IE has troubles with connections, that is the most likely reason.

Shaba,

Thanks for putting it in layman's terms. Do you have a suggestion of how I should check to see if this is part of my issue?

Let's try this:

Open HijackThis, click do a system scan only and checkmark these:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=69.19.14.10:3128

Close all windows including browser and press fix checked.

Reboot.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and tell me if it helped.

Shaba,

I did as you suggested. IE is still running very sluggishly and some pages are not completely loading (i.e. pictures mainly).

Here is a revised log file. Thanks for your help.

Go go to Tools - Internet Options - Advanced in IE. Let me know if Show images is enabled.

Shaba,

I did as you asked. Under the advanced tab in Internet options, there is not a section entitled IE. There is one labeled browsing. Under the browsing section there is not an item specifically labeled with any terminology regarding showing pictures. I am using IE 7.0.

The only items under the browsing section that are not checked are:
Auto check for IE updates
Display a notification about every script error
Enable personalized favorites menu
Enable websites to use the search pane*
Force offscreen compositioning even under terminal server
Notify when downloads complete
Use inline autocomplete
Use most recent order when switching tabs with Ctrl + Tab

FYI, under the HTTP 1.1 Settings section, both the "Use HTTP 1.1" and "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections" are checked.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Please see here (that is for ie 6 but it might apply also to ie 7).

"FYI, under the HTTP 1.1 Settings section, both the "Use HTTP 1.1" and "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections" are checked."

Please uncheck "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections".

Due to lack of Response this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
