I know where the viruses are on my computer, I just do not know how to get to files. They are in my Windows\Temp\folder. The file name is Windows\Temp\tmp5.tmp and Windows\Temp\tmp6.tmp. The infection name is BAT.FTPDownloader.
I do not know how to delete my windows Temp files in safe mode.
Please help me my computer is so slow starting up.

In my last post there were direction to clear out your temp folder, were you unable to follow them for some reason? I'll post them later here also..let me know what problem you are having and we'll get you cleaned up.

There are just a couple of entries in your HijackThis log that still need cleaned.

First of all, you will need to print out this post and/or save a copy as a text file in Notepad; that way you have a hard copy of these instructions; you can not have IE/Firefox/any browser open during the fix <<---- VERY IMPORTANT most fixes will NOT work if a browser is open.

Next, please enable viewing of hidden files as follows:
1) Go to My Computer, and click on the "Tools" menu
2) Click "Folder options"
3) Select the "View" tab
4) Make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is selected
5) Make sure "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked
6) Make sure "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" is unchecked

Please run HijackThis and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries:
You may also optionally check the following entries for removal:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Yahoo! Pager] "C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\ypager.exe" -quiet
O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe Photo Downloader] "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Album Starter Edition\3.0\Apps\apdproxy.exe"
The above programs are NOT needed to run at startup.you can disable any/all by checking in HijackThis..The program can just be ran manually when needed.

Close all browser and other windows except for HijackThis, and click "Fix Checked".

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:

Also, delete the following files (if they exist):

Delete files/folder from the following directories (But not the directory itself, for example delete all files/folder IN temp; but not temp itself!)
  • C:\Windows\Temp\
  • C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
  • C:\Documents and Settings\<All other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
  • C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <---This will delete your internet cache--including cookies. This is recommended and strongly suggested. But you will have to manually log on to all internet sites the first time you visit them again.
  • C:\Documents and Settings\<All other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
  • Empty your "Recycle Bin"


There are always a couple of files that you will not be able to delete..this is normal and expected.

Let me know if you are still having trouble emptying temp out..we'll use another method.

Restart your computer and rerun HijackThis. Please post a FINAL HijackThis log in a reply to this thread.
