Banging my head against the wall.

I'm simply stumped--and I've been trying to fix this all day, and must have visited every site indexed in Google.

I installed the vidalia package from http://tor.amorphis.eu/docs/tor-doc-windows.html.en, and as far as I can tell, that caused the problem. Now that i've removed it, I can no longer access any ssl (https://) websites from IE7.

Firefox works fine, but Safari Windows doesn't (as it uses the same security/connection settings as IE, I believe)

Normal websites work fine, but I get a connection error every time I try an SSL site, and my Event Viewer throws an Schannel error, "A fatal error occurred while creating an SSL client credential." (Event ID 36871)

Again, I'm fairly certain that Tor or Vidalia or Privoxy hosed some settings on my machine, or installed something malicious. Using
"netsh winsock reset" and
"netsh int ip reset" wouldn't fix it, so it's gotta be something deeper.

I'm attaching a Hijack This log, please help me get to the bottom of this!

Please note that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.

If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the HJT forum and wait for help.

Hello and welcome to the forums

My name is Katana and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please observe these rules while we work:
  1. Please Read All Instructions Carefully
  2. If you don't understand something, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  3. Please do not run any other tools or scans whilst I am helping you
  4. Please continue to respond until I give you the "All Clear"
(Just because you can't see a problem doesn't mean it isn't there)

If you can do those few things, everything should go smoothly Image

Please ensure that any USB/Flash/External drives are connected whilst we are cleaning your machine.

Please Note, your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use.
Be assured, any links I give are safe

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I apologize for the delay in responding, but as you can probably see the forums are quite busy.
Unfortunately there are far more people needing help than there are helpers.

If you still require help please do the following

Download and Run RSIT
  • Please download Random's System Information Tool by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open:
    • log.txt will be opened maximized.
    • info.txt will be opened minimized.
  • Please post the contents of both log.txt and info.txt.

Please Note
Please can you copy/paste all logs into your reply rather than attaching them.
This is a teaching forum, and being able to see the logs makes things a lot easier for the students.

Thank you for your cooperation

Due to lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
