Please note that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.

If you think you have similar problems, please post a log in the HJT forum and wait for help.

Hello and welcome to the forums

My name is Katana and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please observe these rules while we work:
1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
3. Please continue to respond until I give you the "All Clear"
(Just because you can't see a problem doesn't mean it isn't there)

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly :D

Please Note, your security programs may give warnings for some of the tools I will ask you to use.
Be assured, any links I give are safe

Hi atomix,

Is this the same machine that Chryssi is helping you with here ?

i need help fast. i need internet for school

This is how you entitled your 72 hour bump topic.

May I point out that
1) A free help forum is not the place to get "fast" help
2) All the helpers are very busy
3) You obviously have some access to the internet as you have two open threads here.

That was totally unneeded, everybody gets helped eventually.
Trying to follow two threads at once can lead to confusion, and since you actually have internet access,
I think the best option is to wait until you have finished your thread with Chryssi.

You can prepare for the second machine by making sure you have access to some form of removable media.
ie USB/flash drive or removable disc.

Please post back here when your other thread is finished.

Hi Atomix,

I see your other thread has been closed, so we can now start working on this machine if you are ready.

PLEASE NOTE:- You have been notified of the forum policy regarding P2P programs,
If I see any sign of P2P being installed on this machine I will have this thread closed.
I will not give any other notice.

you will need to download the following tool on the working machine and then transfer it to the infected computer.

Download and Run RSIT
  • Please download Random's System Information Tool by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open:
    • log.txt will be opened maximized.
    • info.txt will be opened minimized.
  • Please post the contents of both log.txt and info.txt.

Unread postby Katana » October 22nd, 2008, 6:14 pm

should utorrent be removed as well

ALL P2P programs MUST be removed.

Have you tried installing FireFox and seeing if that works ?

Installed Programs

Please could you give me a list of the programs that are installed.
  • Start HijackThis
  • Click on the Misc Tools button
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
You will see a list with the programs installed in your computer.
Click on save list button and specify where you would like to save this file.
When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file.
Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad into your next post.

utorrent has been removed

i have not tried firefox

i cannot download it. but i doubt it would work anyway. as it is not only ie that doesnt work. aim , antivir and anything that requires the internet doesnt work so i dont see why firefox would be an exception.

sorry about the question about utorrent. i was just wondering as every says to remove all p2p programs but they only mention limewire. no has said anything about utorrent before. so i was just wondering.

atomix,

This is just to clarify... when a helper tells you ALL p2p programs must be removed, they mean ALL, not some, not one, ALL!

I'm sure you already knew that. Understand that we will tolerate no attempts to dodge the rules, and we have no intention of wasting our time on a machine that would be immediately reinfected due to p2p filesharing. Either you follow the rules or this topic will be closed and you will be unable to post further topics at this site.

Your full cooperation in this matter is expected.

I'll need some information if we are going to fix this ....

When did this problem with the internet start ?
did you install any new programs just before ?
Have you tried System Restore to before the problem ?

How do you connect to the internet,
Direct cable
Wireless

Do you have a Router ?

Do you know anything about these DNS settings
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{3104460A-9F93-4150-87B0-A6806BA38C81}: NameServer = 10.0.0.1,10.0.0.3

Nothing that uses IE works but i see that the internet is connected

How do you know that the internet is connected, is it because you can use the internet on your other machine,
or can you see the wireless connection on your machine ?

Is the wireless built in, or is it a "USB Dongle" ?

yes
or can you see the wireless connection on your machine ?

yes

i also know because when i click on the little computer with green waves coming from it in the bottom right of my screen under general it not only says im connected but under the activity thingy it's showing that data is move moving sent and recived. about 144 sent and 122 recieved is what its at and it keeps growing. That activity is only possible if the internet works right?

Is the wireless built in, or is it a "USB Dongle" ?

im not entirely sure what a dongle is. Are you referring to the small blue box attached to the pc that reads "Linksys wireless-b". Is that a dongle?

Let's check some settings on your system.

Click Start >> Control Panel
If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections.
Now right click on your default connection, it should say Linksys wireless-b, and left click on properties. Click the Networking tab. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be available on some systems

Click Start >> Run type cmd and hit OK
type
ipconfig /flushdns
then hit enter, type exit hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)

Reboot your machine and see if the internet works now

if anything its worse now. now it says it connected but it just says status:aquiring network addresss
so now it wont even fully connect

but there was no network tab. internet protocol (tcp/ip) was under general

the flushing thingy said it worked. rebooted then nothing still.
