Re: my HijackThis log - 10/3/2008

I was given a set of instructions to follow after posting my above log, and I was unable to do this next step:

Double-click on SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press Enter.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?" answer Yes by typing Y and hit Enter.
The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

I found the folder SmitfraudFix on my desktop, but there was no "option #2" :(

Hi snaphu

You are supposed to open SmitfraudFix folder in desktop, double-click SmitfraudFix.exe in that folder and choose option 2 :)

Reboot.exe
restart.exe
SmitFraudFix.cmd
SmiUpdate.exe
SrchSTS.exe
swreg.exe
swsc.exe
swxcacls.exe
UIFix.exe
unzip.exe
VACFix.exe
VCCLSID.exe

What it did say?

Or did maybe Norton prevent it?

Just double-click it and if Norton warns, allow it.

If it doesn't work, continue with superantispyware, please.

Due to Lack of Response this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
