Re: Do I have Malware? Sites locking up

Unread postby silver » October 6th, 2008, 10:22 pm

Hi Suedi52,

Please press Start->Run, copy/paste the following command (it's one long command) into the box and press OK:
cmd /c dir "C:\WINDOWS\system32\mdmcls32.exe" /a >> "%userprofile%\desktop\look.txt
A new file called look.txt should appear on your Desktop, please post the contents with your next response.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Download RSIT by random/random to your Desktop (right-click the link, select Save Target As..., select your Desktop and press Save)

  • Double click RSIT.exe to start the program, and click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - log.txt <- this one will be maximized and info.txt <-this one will be minimized
  • Make sure Format->Word Wrap is unchecked
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of log.txt and info.txt in your reply

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once complete, please post the look.txt output and both RSIT logs, you won't need to produce a new HijackThis log as RSIT produces one for you.

Re: Do I have Malware? Sites locking up

Hi Suedi52,

You have ZoneAlarm Spy Blocker installed on your system. This program incorporates the Ask Toolbar which is not malware, but it may report on your surfing behavior and is considered undesirable, see here and here for more information. If you actually use this program, consider a safe alternative such as Google Toolbar.
I recommend you remove this program via Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then, open HijackThis, choose Do a system scan only and place a checkmark next to the following line:
O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - (no file)
You have websites in your Trusted Zone. Any sites in the Trusted Zone are a security risk, so unless you need them to be there in order for the sites to work then please remove them by checking these lines:
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.vectorvest.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.vectorvest.com
Then close all open windows apart from HijackThis, press Fix checked, OK the prompt and close HijackThis.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Open Notepad: press Start->Run, type notepad into the box and press OK
Select Format from the top menu and make sure Word Wrap is NOT checked.
Then, copy/paste the contents of the following code box into Notepad:
Code: Select all
@echo off
sc stop "WinSock Extention Manager" >> results.txt 2>>&1
sc delete "WinSock Extention Manager" >> results.txt 2>>&1
dir "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\{B46E1EF5-0B37-4DB4-A4E2-9F2B41036185}" /a /s >> results.txt 2>>&1
sc config dnscache start= disabled >> results.txt 2>>&1
sc stop dnscache >> results.txt 2>>&1
sc query dnscache >> results.txt 2>>&1
del %0

Select File and Save as
Save it to your Desktop as "runme.bat" (you MUST type the quotes)
Locate runme.bat on your Desktop and double-click it.
A black box should open and close after a short time, this is normal.
Another text file should appear on your Desktop called results.txt, do not open it until the black box has closed.
Post the contents of this file in your next response.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your Desktop (right-click the link, select Save Target As..., select your Desktop and press Save)
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to both of these options:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform Quick Scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When finished, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to your Desktop, and post the contents in your reply.
  • The log can also be found here if you need it:
    • Start->All Programs->Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware->Logs

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once complete, please post the results.txt output, the Malwarebytes Antimalware report and a new HijackThis log.
Also, let me know how your machine is running at present.

Hopefully, I got everything. Anyway, I thank you for your help and will definitely contribute to your worthy cause of helping all us incompetent computer users. :D

Hi Suedi52,

Yes everything looks fine and thank you for offering to contribute :)

How is your machine running now? Has there been any change to the symptoms you are experiencing?

Computer seems to be working pretty good bringing up mutliple sites. They say road runner turbo should be lightning speed and I am bringing up a site in 1 -2 seconds now when moving from one site to another. Clicking on i.e. to google site takes about 3 - 4 seconds. I know that's faster than before. The other problem I had was computer getting slower until it finally would lock the site and I'd have to end task. I'll have to see if that's still a problem.
