Hi :)

what instructions the only instructions i got were the ones i already did

Not completely, if you have any problems understanding something please stop and ask straight away

The reason why I am asking for the below to be carried out is to check that Java has been updated and or just removed because according to your log some out dated elements are still present. Plus to make sure no other malware related entries are present. This is a precaution for you own best interest.

Next:

Please reboot/restart your computer. In you next post please confirm you did this.

Next:

I would like to view a list of currently installed software applications on you're PC. How to provide as follows:

Run HijackThis and click on Open the Misc Tools section.
  • Click Open Uninstall Manager...
  • Click Save list... and save it to your Desktop.
  • Copy and paste the file uninstall_list.txt into your next reply.

Next:

When completed the above, please post back the following:

  • Confirm you rebooted your computer.
  • Uninstall list created by HijackThis.
  • A new HijackThis Log.

Hi :)

Just a few minor entries to clean up as follows:

Before commencing with any of the below please make sure you are logged into the Computer Administrator account for this machine.

Now please go to Start >> Control Panel >> Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

LiveUpdate (Symantec Corporation)

Note: Take extra care in answering questions posed by any Uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into keeping the program.

Please re-open HiJackThis and select Scan. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below (if present):

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
O2 - BHO: Symantec Intrusion Prevention - {6D53EC84-6AAE-4787-AEEE-F4628F01010C} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\SYMANT~1\IDS\IPSBHO.dll (file missing)
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\bin\ssv.dll (file missing)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_01\bin\ssv.dll (file missing)

Now click on Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these folders (if present):

C:\Program Files\Java
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec

Next click Start >> Run and type cleanmgr in the box and press OK.
  • Ensure the boxes for Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files and Recycle Bin are checked.
  • You can choose to check other boxes if you wish but they are not required.
  • Click on OK then Yes.
  • Now Reboot(restart) your computer.

When completed the above, please post back the following:
  • Inform myself how your computer is running.
  • A new HijackThis Log.

Re: internet must close?

Unread postby Dakeyras » September 25th, 2008, 10:06 am

Hi :)

i have wondered about the symentec for a while because it is for norton anti virus isnt it? any way i cant uninstall it because it is not installed on my puter. thats what add remove programs sais. i will do the rest though

It was originally and other related security services and sometimes these can be left behind after a removal because the aforementioned is the type of application(s) that becomes entrenched deeply in the registry of a operating system.

Your computer now appears to be malware free

Since recently I did post some advice earlier in this topic pertaining to advised online safety information. I will do so again but a more shorted version but still very much pertinent.

Next:

Reset the system restore points:

  • Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
  • Select the System Restore tab.
  • Check (tick) Turn off system restore on all drives box.
  • Click OK.
  • Restart your computer.

After restarting your computer, follow these steps:

  • Right click on My Computer and select Properties.
  • Select the System Restore tab.
  • Uncheck (untick) Turn off system restore on all drives box.
  • Click OK.
  • Restart your computer.

Note: Do this only ONCE, do not reset regularly.

Now some advice for online safety:

There is no sign of a software firewall installed on your system. Regardless the inbuilt Windows Service Pack 3 firewall this is a necessary application as it will also provide outbound protection where as the aforementioned do not..

I highly advise you download ONE of the following firewalls and install it. Restart the computer for changes to take effect.

Next:

Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware:

This is a excellent application and I advise you keep this installed. Check for updates and run a scan once a week.

System Maintenance:

I advise you read this article as this is a important issue and goes along to-wards keeping your computer stable.

Next:

Any questions? if not happy/safe surfing

Hi :)

You're welcome!

actuallyi do have a question sorry. if i do a scan with malwarebytes and it finds malware what should i do?

Thats not a problem, asking a question is the best way to learn anything.

If MBAM finds anything have it remove for the most part. Saying that if unsure always wise to create a new topic in any of the ASAP forums and ask but bare in mind this article also.

Any other questions?
