Ok, so here's the deal. I was tooling around the internet, downloaded a register cleaner, and downloaded a keygen. Antivirus came up clean, so I ran it. Mistake=mine. Immediately had new shortcuts to "privacy protector" and "spyware&malware protection." I cannot ctrl + alt + del, it says it has been blocked by the administrator, a red x appears in my system tray, and I get "spyware alerts" telling me I'm under an internet attack. It also pops me up a warning saying my system has been infected with "Worm.Win32.NetBooster" but my antivirus comes back clean.

Here's my log:

The computer guy at work says I probably have some malware, and I'm trying to root it out myself, but am not having much luck.

Hi powder96

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Musicmatch and AVG had both been acting funny, so I uninstalled them before I ran SD fix and will reinstall them now.

To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

Image

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

IMPORTANT I notice there are signs of one or more P2P (Peer to Peer) File Sharing Programs on your computer.

eMule
Soulseek Client 152
SoulSeek Client 156c

I'd like you to read the MRU policy for P2P Programs.

Please go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and uninstall the programs listed above (in red).

Please run a new HJT scan when finished and post the log back here along with a fresh uninstall list.

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

Re: First malware in years?

Go to Start > Run
Type regedit and click OK.

  • On the leftside, click to highlight My Computer at the top.
  • Go up to "File > Export"
    • Make sure in that window there is a tick next to "All" under Export Branch.
    • Leave the "Save As Type" as "Registration Files".
    • Under "Filename" put backup
  • Choose to save it to C:\ or in somewhere else safe location so that you will remember where you put it (don't put it on the Desktop!)
  • Click Save and then go to File > Exit.

Open Notepad and copy the contents of the following box to a new file.

Code: Select all
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\services\sharedaccess\parameters\firewallpolicy\standardprofile\authorizedapplications\list]
"C:\Program Files\eMule\emule.exe"=-
"C:\Program Files\Soulseek\slsk.exe"=-

Save it as fix.reg (save type: "All files" (*.*)) to your desktop.

It should look like this -> Image

Go to Desktop, double-click fix.reg and merge the infomation with the registry.

(In case you are unsure how to create a reg file, take a look here with screenshots.)

Reboot.

Re-run rsit.

Post a fresh rsit log

Sorry. I don't mean to be rude, but why am I doing this? I took the programs off my computer like you asked me to, and now we're doing more fiddling with them then we've done tech support for my malware. I appreciate your help, but it makes me very wary when I don't understand why someone's asking me to fiddle with files on my computer.

Also, the link in your reply doesn't work.

Also, what malware do/did I have? What was it trying to do? Do I need to go back and change my passwords on things again? Is my computer safe now or should I not be bandying about the internet like I have been since it started working normally again? Once again, I'm very grateful for all the help you've been.

We are removing leftovers. Those are in allowed programs list in windows firewall. As those programs don't exist anymore, of course those entries need to go as well. They are not files but registry items.

I removed that link, that you for informing.

You had a rogue program which showed ads and other things. SDFix removed it. Not dangerous but very annoying. No need to change passwords.

We will continue with one scanner after those instructions to ensure that you are clean :)

Due to Lack of Response this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
