Update Java and Remove Old Versions

Please download JavaRa and unzip it to your desktop.

***Please close any instances of Internet Explorer before continuing!***

  • Double-click on JavaRa.exe to start the program.
  • From the drop-down menu, choose English and click on Select.
  • JavaRa will open; click on Remove Older Versions to remove the older versions of Java installed on your computer.
  • Click Yes when prompted. When JavaRa is done, a notice will appear that a logfile has been produced. Click OK.
  • A logfile will pop up. Please save it to a convenient location.

Then download and install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7 following the instructions below:
  • Go to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7 and click on Download button.
  • In Platform box choose Windows.
  • Check the box to Accept License Agreement and click Continue.
  • Click on Windows Offline Installation, click on the link under it which says "jre-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe" and save the downloaded file to your desktop.
  • Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file with the java icon which will be at your desktop, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Reboot your computer

Update Adobe Reader

Recently there have been vunerabilities detected in older versions of Adobe Reader. It is strongly suggested that you update to the current version. Adobe Reader 8.
You can download it from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
If you already have Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition installed or do not wish to have it installed UNcheck the box which says Also Download Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition.

Adobe 8 is a large program and if you prefer a smaller program you can get Foxit 2.0 instead from http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

Please post a Hijackthis log. How is everything running now?

Have done everything except update Adobe Reader 7.0. I have Adobe Acrobat Professional 7.0. Will my updating the reader have any affect on the rest of the program? We use this to create PDF files for work.

Let me know before I post the new HJT log file.

Thanks

Well been the computer has been sitting idle for last 24 hours, no popups but gone to BSoD. Twice.
I've swapped memory with another machine after first time, just in case. Worked until sometime after 23:00 last night. This morning at 0915mdt I had a blue screen. Nothing was running other than Norton Internet Security, the Berkeley program and nVidia media center for monitor, the computer was connected to the internet but idle thru the night, as far as I can determine.
BTW, all fans have been replaced within the last 90 days, case, cpu, chip and video. Power supply has been checked with our oscilliscope and there is less than 100mv ripple. The supply is a PC Power 500W EPS unit about a year old.

At least the popup and abduction of sites seems to be taken care of since you started investigation and repair.
Here is the latest HJT log taken this morning after BSoD and reboot.
Hope it helps.

Thanks again
Ike

As this is a computer troubleshooting issue, not a malware issue, I suggest you use the following link to go to the CastleCops General Computer Problems forum for help from a CastleCops SRT...

http://www.castlecops.com/f120-General_ ... blems.html

I recommend that you register before posting your problem. Registered members can receive notification when there has been a reply to their topic. There is no way for CCSP to notify "guests" when they have received a reply.

About computer issue I will pursue the link you supplied.

I've been on off the internet thru-out the day, No pop-ups and no intercepts occured.
Is there any other items/issues you want me to address at this time?

If not is there any software that you suggest I run perodically to check for malware issues?
Thanks

Due to lack of activity, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
