Unread postby tweety » August 6th, 2008, 2:50 am

Thanks in advance for taking a look.

PC: Asus T2-P 3.0 ghz with 1 gig ram. Integrated Intel video. 400 Gig HDD w/two equal partitions (C:/D:) XP Pro with the latest security/MS Updates.
Running two resident anti Virus Programs: Avast Professional, and Avira Personal Free. Also run RemoveIT Pro Enterprise as a stand alone (works great) Also run A-Squared Free, MS Malicious SW Remover, AVG Anti-Root Kit, and Win ASO v2.0.5 Trial (which works great) and CCleaner. Also run Internet Properties regulary to complete delete IE temp Internet files.

Did have a serious virus that took some work to get out of my machine, but I'm afraid it left something behind, and am at my wits end to find it / clean it. Want to have the HJT log looked at, and maybe the answer here is to re-install windows XP. I dunno... just gettting unbeleivable slowness, with the Performance indicator in Task manager generally spiked at 88% to 100% most of the time.

Wondering if it is worth trying to fix this issue, or just re-install XP (and which method is best?)

Any help GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Thanks,
Tweety

Hi tweety

You are running two antiviruses.

You should be using only one; that's computer is slow.

So please uninstall one of them (likely Avira if avast is up-to-date) and post back a fresh HijackThis log :)

Hello, Thanks so much for the quick reply.

It DID help the slowness, but I have to do a little more stuff to make sure.

It was crawling before I installed the Avira. I installed that to see what else, if anything it could find. It found nothing.

I'll test it out today, opening my HTML editor, FTP, IE (which always seems slow, and Email (Outlook 2007). I'm a web developer.

I did do a repair-reinstall a few weeks ago, which didn't really "fix" the slowness. SO was wondering what would be the best way to re-install clean. Keep in mind I can move all my stuff (progs, favorites) to the D: drive, re-install, and move them back.... suggestions?

WHat else do you see in HJT? anything? If not a clean re-install would be the way to go, huh?

And - THANK YOU for looking, and your fast reply.

Funny you should suggest that. Did that last night. Took a few hours...

But yes, did that just last night.

I think I see an improvement in overall speed since removing Avira.
I"ll be working all-day on the PC, multiple programs, etc... should be a good indication of the overall performance - that should be in a few hours... so far though, so good.

Thanks much for your fast resonse and overall help.
