Welcome mzbama93

I will be helping you under the guidance of one of our expert coaches.
Please give me a little time to get back to you with instructions.

In the meantime please note the following:
  • Any recommendations made are for your computer problems only and should NOT be used on any other computer.
  • Please DO NOT run any scans/tools or other fixes unless I ask you to. This is very important for several reasons. Here are just two of them:
    1. The tools that we use are very powerful and can cause >>irreparable damage<< to your computer if not used correctly.
    2. Commercial scanners, for the most part can not completely remove some of the more "resistant" infections. This makes it much more difficult to get rid of completely.
  • If you get stuck or are unsure of something please ask for a further explanation, do not guess.
  • Continue to respond to this thread until I give you the All Clean!
Thanks
John

Hello mzbama93

Remove Programs
Click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
Remove these programs by clicking Remove

Antivirus 2009

If some programs listed are not present, please do not panic

I see by your Uninstall list you have Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. That's good. We'll use that first up.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Double-click Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware icon on your desktop to launch the program
  • Click Update then Check for Updates
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version
  • Once the program has updated, select Scanner>Perform full scan, then click Scan
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the log back into your next reply
    Note:
  • The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\mbam-log-date (time).txt
  • Or via the Logs tab when Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is started.

Fix HiJackThis Entries
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on do a system scan only
  • Place a checkmark next to these lines(if still present):

O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} (PopCapLoader Object) - http://games.myspace.com/gameshell/game ... v10_en.cab

  • Close all windows except Hijackthis and click Fix Checked
  • Click Yes when prompted
  • Close HijackThis.

Unread postby jmw3 » July 27th, 2008, 7:16 pm

Hello mzbama93
Logs are looking good. How's everything running?

Fix HiJackThis Entries
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on do a system scan only
  • Place a checkmark next to these lines(if still present):

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

  • Close all windows except Hijackthis and click Fix Checked
  • Click Yes when prompted
  • Close HijackThis.

Update Java Runtime
You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 7.
  • Go to http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
  • Go to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7 and click on Download button
  • In Platform box choose Windows
  • Check the box to Accept License Agreement and click Continue
  • Click on Windows Offline Installation, click on the link under it which says "jre-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe" and save the downloaded file to your desktop
  • Go to Start => Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs
  • Uninstall all old versions of Java
  • Reboot your computer
  • Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Java if present
  • Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file with the java icon which will be at your desktop, and follow the on-screen instructions
  • Reboot your computer

Update Adobe Reader
Recently there have been vunerabilities detected in older versions of Adobe Reader. It is strongly suggested that you update to the current version. Adobe Reader 9.
You can download it from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
If you already have Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition installed or do not wish to have it installed Uncheck the box which says Also Download Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition.

Adobe 9 is a large program and if you prefer a smaller program you can get Foxit 2.3 instead from http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

Deckard's System Scanner (DSS)
Download Deckard's System Scanner here & save to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt to your post in your next reply.

Looking over your DSS log, it seems you don't have any firewall enabled even though you have the choice of either the Windows firewall or the Comodo Firewall Pro v3.0.
As the term conveys, a firewall is an extra layer of security installed onto computers, which restricts access to systems from the outside world. Firewalls protect against hackers and malicious intruders. I want you to enable one of these firewalls NOW
I would recommend the Comodo Firewall as the the built-in Windows XP firewall does not block outgoing connections. This means that any malware on your computer is free to "phone home" for more instructions. Simply put, Windows XP contains a mediocre firewall. This firewall is NO replacement for a dedicated software solution. Remember to use only one firewall to avoid conflicts & problems.

Yor DSS log also shows you have way below the minimum recommended Ram for your system. The log shows 192mb whereas the minimum required is 512mb. This could also be a factor in any pc problems you may have. I would strongly recommend you upgrade to the required 512mb.
Here is a couple of links to some well respected tech support sites that may be of some help:

Fix File Associations with DSS
Run Deckard's System Scanner again, using these instructions:
  • Ensure DSS.exe is on your desktop
  • Click the Windows Start then Run
  • Copy/paste the following into the run box & click OK

Code: Select all
"%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /daft

  • Click Scan
  • Tick the boxes which should appear for these entries:
    .reg - regfile - shell\open\command - regedit.exe "%1" %*
    .scr - scrfile - shell\open\command - "%1" %*

  • Click Fix
  • Click Scan again, you should get a message All Associations OK!
  • Next, click Save Log, and post this log in your next reply

Open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware & click on the Quarantine tab
Click Delete All

  • Uninstall all old versions of Java (Java 3 Runtime Environment, JRE or JSE)
  • Reboot your computer
  • Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Java if present
  • Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file with the java icon which will be at your desktop, and follow the on-screen instructions
  • Reboot your computer

Update Adobe Reader
Recently there have been vunerabilities detected in older versions of Adobe Reader. It is strongly suggested that you update to the current version: Adobe Reader 9

Post the DSS log for checking.

Due to inactivity this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
