welcome to malwareremoval forums

That's better :)

My name is Dan, and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please note! that all instructions given are customised for this computer only, the tools used may cause damage if used on a computer with different infections.

Please observe these rules while we work:
  • Perform all actions in the order given.
  • If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • Stick with it till you're given the all clear.
  • REMEMBER, ABSENCE OF SYMPTOMS DOES NOT MEAN THE INFECTION IS ALL GONE.
If you can do these things, everything should go smoothly.
  • Please note you'll need to have Administrator priviledges to perform the fixes. (XP accounts are Administrator by default)
  • Please let me know if you are using a computer with multiple accounts, as this can affect the instructions given.

Unless informed of in advance, failure to post replies within 5 days will result in this thread being closed.

It may be helpful to you to print out or take a copy of any instructions given, as sometimes it is necessary to go offline and you will lose access to them.

I'm presently looking over your log and hope not to be too long.
Will be back with you as soon as I can.
Thanks dan

I believe we have some files hiding from us, we need to flush them out.

Please go to the C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Desktop\HiJackThis.exe. Right click on the HijackThis.exe file and select "Rename". Rename it removal.exe,

Then run HijackThis again and post a new log please.

Thanks dan

Re: Horrible lag, settings changed, help me!

Unread postby dan12 » July 4th, 2008, 5:41 am

Highjackthis.exe needs a permanant folder of it's own in order to create backups
Create a folder on the desktop, right click on the desktop, select new folder, and name it HJT Now locate C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Desktop\HiJackThis.exe
copy and paste it into the new folder ( HJT ) you created on the desktop.
Do this before you continue.

Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall New.Net or NEWDOTNET. If either of those aren't in the list... go here and follow Procedure 4 to uninstall it.

Delete the C:\Program Files\NewDotNet folder.

Reboot and post a new HJT log please.

Does new.net show up in add and remove programs?
Make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will now be presented with a screen similar to the one below:

Image

5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here on your next reply.

Ok, in the meantime while I just check up regarding newdotnet.
Can you carry out this next step.

Your TeaTimer is going to interfere with what we are trying to do. I need you to disable it.

Disable Spybot's TeaTimer. This is a two step process.
First:
- Right click Spybot in the System Tray (looks like a calendar with a padlock symbol)
- Choose Exit Spybot S&D Resident
Second:
- Open Spybot S&D
- Click Mode, check Advanced Mode
- Go To Left Panel, Click Tools, then also in left panel, click Resident
- If your firewall raises a question, say OK
- Uncheck the box labeled Resident Tea-Timer and OK any prompts.
- Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
- Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

Leave it disabled till I tell you it's ok to turn it back on.

Lets get rid of some of the rubbish first.

Regards newdotnet! Yes, usb/flash will work fine.

That was written before usb/flash were in standard use

You will need to navigate to NNuninstall.exe. manually, as the path is unlikely to be A:\
_______

Although NewDotNet does not claim to be spyware, it has been associated with computer instability in certain situations. Both SaveNow and NewDotNet have been linked for computer instability according to the MS Knowledge Base Article 302463.

For more information, please see the following:
Description of NewDotNet from the doxdesk parasite database
What is SaveNow and/or New.Net?
Foistware: New Net, Inc. (NewDotNet) DLL

I recommend that you remove NewDotNet unless you deliberately installed it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please download LSP-Fix from the following link and save it to a location you can find later if necessary. Do not use this. See ***note below.
LSP-Fix Download Link
Do not mess with this tool or do anything with it besides the instructions above.

Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall New.Net or NEWDOTNET. If either of those aren't in the list... go here and follow Procedure 4 to uninstall it.

Delete the C:\Program Files\NewDotNet folder.

Reboot and post a new HJT log please.

***Note: If you cannot connect to the Internet after removing New.net, please run the LSP-Fix program I had you download earlier, and click on the finish button. Reboot and you should be able to get back on.

let me see a HJT log when done then we can move on to the main infection.

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:

  1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  2. Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.

When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:
