Unread postby mkiigolf » June 18th, 2008, 1:52 am

I need help eliminating a problem with spawning web pages. http://fp.pc-on-internet.com occurs the most but I get other sites as well. I have tried all of the usual programs but no luck. I have even specifically blocked this site on my firewall but it is getting through.

Here is my hijackthis log:

Hi mkiigolf

Download F-Secure Blacklight and save it to your desktop -> ftp://ftp.f-secure.com/anti-virus/tools/fsbl.exe

Doubleclick fsbl.exe, accept the agreement, click Scan, then click Next

You'll see a list what have been found. A log will appear to your desktop, it is named fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (xxxxxxx will be random numbers).

DON'T choose Rename if something was found!

Post the contents of fsbl.xxxx.log to here (xxxx= random numbers, blacklight log from your desktop)

Hi

Yes, we have a navipromo rootkit.

  • Download BFU.zip from here
  • Right click on BFU.zip and click Extract all
  • Extract it to C:\BFU
  • Right click here and choose Save Link as to download EGDACCESS.bfu by Metallica
  • Save it to C:\BFU as EGDACCESS.bfu

It may be a good idea to print the rest of these instructions off as you will be rebooting your computer and will not have internet access while in safe mode

  • Start blacklight.
  • Select I accept the agreement
  • Click Next>
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Click on Next>
  • Now click on the first item listed and click Rename
  • Repeat for the rest of the items listed
  • Click Next>
  • Tick the box next to I understand the warning
  • Click OK
  • Click Restart now
  • Click OK

Your computer will then restart

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.

  • Go to C:\BFU and double click BFU.exe to start the Brute Force Uninstaller (BFU) by Merijn
  • Click on the folder icon Image
  • Find and select EGDACCESS.bfu
  • Click Open
  • Click Execute
  • Wait for the script to finish executing
  • You will get the message Completed script execution.
  • Click OK
  • Close BFU

Restart

  • Start blacklight.
  • Select I accept the agreement
  • Click Next
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Click on Next>
  • Click Exit
  • A logfile will have been created in the C:\ drive
  • It will be named fsbl-xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.log where xxxxxxxxxxxxxx is the date and time of the scan
  • Use notepad to open that log
  • Post the contents of that log as a reply to this topic, along with a new HijackThis log

Shaba,

It looks like your instructions did the trick. I am not seeing any more pop up browsers. Thank you for all your help.

Hi

Yes, rootkit is killed :)

Next leftover can go.

Open HijackThis, click do a system scan only and checkmark this:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ggyqgqkc] c:\documents and settings\geoge\local settings\application data\ggyqgqkc.exe ggyqgqkc

Close all windows including browser and press fix checked.

Reboot.

Delete these files:

c:\Documents and Settings\Geoge\Local Settings\Application Data\ggyqgqkc.dat.ren
C:\documents and settings\geoge\local settings\application data\ggyqgqkc.exe.ren
c:\Documents and Settings\Geoge\Local Settings\Application Data\ggyqgqkc_nav.dat.ren
c:\Documents and Settings\Geoge\Local Settings\Application Data\ggyqgqkc_navps.dat.ren

Empty Recycle Bin.

Please go to Kaspersky website and perform an online antivirus scan.

  1. Read through the requirements and privacy statement and click on Accept button.
  2. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions. You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click Run.
  3. When the downloads have finished, click on Settings.
  4. Make sure these boxes are checked (ticked). If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
      Archives
      Mail databases
  5. Click on My Computer under Scan.
  6. Once the scan is complete, it will display the results. Click on View Scan Report.
  7. You will see a list of infected items there. Click on Save Report As....
  8. Save this report to a convenient place. Change the Files of type to Text file (.txt) before clicking on the Save button.
  9. Please post this log in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Hi

Yes there is one infected email in your email account.

Unfortunately kaspersky doesn't tell exact location to us.

So we have two chances here:

1. Ignore it.

2. Try older version of kaspersky scanner which can show also details.

Please tell me which one you choose :)

Due to Lack of response this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
