Welcome to the forum. I am checking your log now and will return as soon as I have researched all the items.

While we are working together, please ....
  • Reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
  • If you are unsure of what to do, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
  • Be patient. HijackThis logs take some time to research.

Please note the following:
  • I will be working on your Malware issues: This may or may not, solve other issues you may have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. (Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.)
  • The process may take considerable time.

Uh oh. Time is the one thing I don't have, LOL. Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, the computer with the issues is in my vacation house and barring major Wilma problems, I will be leaving here Saturday. In other words, I gotta get this fixed by Saturday! :hiding:

Hi

You may want to print out these instructions or save them as a text file with Notepad to your desktop because we will be restarting into Safe Mode later on in the fix and you might not be able to access the Internet. Read this instructions carefully and feel free to ask if you're unsure about something

The first job you need to do is un-hide the system files as follows:

  • Open My Computer
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK

===============

You have a Peper infection, please click here to download the PeperFix tool, save it to your desktop, doubleclick on it, click 'Find and Fix' and reboot if prompted.

===============

Next you need to run an online virus scan Trend Micro Housecall. Post back if it finds anything or not.

===============

Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:

Viewpoint Manager <---------- Optional

The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

Note:
'To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player. The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information. CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously.'

===============

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Config..."
2. Click "Misc Tools"
3. Click "Open Process manager"

-

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe <--------- Optional

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

===============

Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe <--------------- Optional
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [8dd933bb63e9] C:\WINNT\system32\atmfd131.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [x73Ar] C:\winnt\system32\x73Ar.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [3Q#WN5J4E7QZP9] C:\WINNT\system32\LutB.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [freestyle] lockx.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [freestyle] lockx.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [freestyle] lockx.exe

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

folders...

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint <------------------- Optional

files...

C:\WINNT\system32\atmfd131.exe
C:\winnt\system32\x73Ar.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\LutB.exe

Search for...

lockx.exe

...using "Start | Search...".

-

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them from Safe Mode

===============

Post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes.

OK. While waiting for a reply I did some research and I already downloaded PeperFix tool and ran it. That's now clean according to the tool.

I removed Viewpoint Manager from Add/Remove programs.

I clicked Open Process manager in HJT, and C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe was not there.

I ran another HJT scan and O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe was not there.

I attempted to delete C:\Program Files\Viewpoint and got the following message Cannot delete AxMetaStream.dll There has been a sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use. Since it was optional I didn't attempt it in safe mode. Should I?

The other files, ie, C:\WINNT\system32\atmfd131.exe
C:\winnt\system32\x73Ar.exe
C:\WINNT\system32\LutB.exe
lockx.exe were not found. I'm assuming that the peperfix might have gotten rid of those. Am I assuming wrong?

What the heck is this? O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'connwsp.dll' missing

Housecall is still running and I'm leaving soon, so I will let it run and post as soon as I get back with those results.

Thanks for all your help. Fingers crossed.

Hi

Thanks for your reply.

The broken LSP is the way HJT reports it,in this case the file is not missing also the file it mentions is legit. A LSP stands for Layer Service Provider. LSPs are away to chain a piece of software to your Winsock 2 implementation on your computer. Since the LSPs are changed together. When Winsock is used, the data is also transported through each of the LSPs in the chain.

The other lines you mentioned were removed by HJT and also it looks like Peper infection has gone aswell.

Has I mentioned in my fix instructions Viewpoint Magager is was an optional fix, and it is your choice whether you want to keep it on your computer or not. Looking though your log i noticed you are an AOL user which installs it.

Latest Fix instructions

===============

Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Mw32RSGpi] nlsqfe.exe

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

Search for...

nlsqfe.exe

...using "Start | Search...".

-

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them from Safe Mode

===============

Post back a new log, and let me know how everything goes.
