Virus preventing most actions...

Well I must go to the professionals with this one. I can usually beat these but not this time.

I've got some sort of virus that gave me the blue screen of death. I rebooted. However it uninstalled my virus software, Bitdefender (which did not catch it to begin with.) I cannot reinstall bitdefender. I cannot restore my machine to an eariler point. No matter which point I choose it says it cannot be restored. I cannot load in Safe Mode... just keeps cycling back to normal windows when I try. I've done two online scans... both hang a few seconds after starting. I tried to install SetOne from MS. WOn't run. I tried to install Spyware Doctor. Won't install. Gets partway and crashes. Installed Windows Defender. Will not open after installing. Ran Windows Malware Removal... hangs after a few seconds. Most of my programs seem to be working so I'm running slow though some seem to be not working properly.

I have installed HIjackthis. It will not run. I get the same error message with some of the others. ".... Hijackthis.exe not a valid win32 application."

I can't even find out what kind of bug I've got. Any help/info would be greatly appreciated.

Windows XP Pro.

I finally got AVG to install and it removed 8 items. (It had actually froze on install and after 15 minutes I clicked "Cancel"... it then for some reason finsihed the install. Go figure.)

I think my issue is solved. Thanks anyway!

We're sorry that you have not received a response. Unfortunately, when you reply to your own post, it makes it appear that you have received help. Our helpers look for topics that have received no responses.

If your situation is resolved, that is good. However, if the problems recur, please return, start a new topic, and post a HijackThis log as well as a brief explanation of any problems or symptoms your system may be experiencing. Put this all in one post, and make no replies to that topic until you have received a response.

As this issue appears to be resolved, this topic is now closed.
