Comp recently infected, is it clean now?

Hey,
This last week I had out of state relatives visiting my family, and my computer was used by some of my cousins during the day while I was at school. One day when I got home and got on my computer, I noticed that AVG had found trojans and other adware during the scheduled daily scan. I'm guessing the trojans were probably attached to a torrent that my cousin had downloaded. AVG's report showed that the trojans had been quarantined, and I ran Spybot to see if it found anything afterwards, which it didn't.

Today I got on my computer and noticed sluggish performance when I was just listening to music (nothing else open, besides MSN Messenger) and the music started to skip. I was looking through the running processes and didn't find anything unusual (except wininit.exe, which I think is normal in this case?).

I ran another AVG scan today and it only showed some adware and tracking cookies, and I didn't know if that was enough to cause my computer to be so slow. So, I decided to post a HJT for someone knowledgeable to examine in case there was still a problem.

I have several AVG scan results saved from the last few days, as well as a command line scan I ran while in safe mode earlier today that I can post upon request.

Finally, please make a uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

• Start HijackThis
• Click on the Config button
• Click on the Misc Tools button
• Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
• Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Save the file to your desktop and post the contents in a reply to this topic. Also post a fresh HijackThis log as the other one is around five days old and situations can change fast.

Thanks for the logs. Just thought I would reply within 24 hours to let you know I am still watching this topic. Friday is for me the most bussiest day of the week (in the morning till 3 pm school and afterwards till 11 pm work).

In your log I see at least one little infection, so we will work on that. Maybe there is more when we do some other scans. I will reply within 12 hours with some steps for you to work through.

Is it normal to have 2 running processes of rundll32.exe?

Yes, for each dll that has to be executed there is one rundll32.exe process. From your startup lines you can already see two of those:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Windows\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvMediaCenter] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\Windows\system32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInit

We will run a specific tool which will remove the infection you have and check if some settings and registry keys are still alright.

Please copy the fix to Word, or print it, because you won't always have internet access!

P2P Warning!
Please note that as long as you are using any form of Peer-to-Peer networking and downloading files from non-documented sources, you can expect infestations of malware to occur
Once upon a time, P2P file sharing was fairly safe. That is no longer true. You may continue to use P2P sharing at your own risk; however, please keep in mind that this practice may be the source of your current malware infestation

Clean/Infected P2P Programs
Please decide if you want to keep using P2P so I can put it in my next speech if you don't want to keep it.

Step 1: Disable Teatimer
Please disable Teatimer as it may interfere with the fix.
First:

• Right click Spybot in the System Tray (looks like a calendar with a padlock symbol)
• Choose Exit Spybot S&D Resident

Second:

• Open Spybot S&D
• Click Mode, check Advanced Mode
• Go To Left Panel, Click Tools, then also in left panel, click Resident
• If your firewall raises a question, say OK
• Uncheck the box labeled Resident Tea-Timer and OK any prompts.
• Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
• Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

Once your log is clean you can re-enable those settings in TeaTimer.

Step 2: Disable Windows Defender
Please disable Windows Defender Real Time Protection as it may interfere with the fix. To disable Windows Defender:

• Open Windows Defender
• Click Tools
• Click General Settings
• Scroll down to Real Time Protection Options
• Uncheck Turn on Real Time Protection (recommended)
• Click Save
• Close Windows Defender
• Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

Once your log is clean you can re-enable Windows Defender Real Time Protection.

Step 3: Download and Install SDFix
Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Step 4: Boot into Safe Mode
Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.

• If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
• Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
• Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
• Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
• Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
• Login on your usual account.

Step 5: Run SDFix

• Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
• Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
• It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
• Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
• When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
• Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
  (Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
• Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log.
