Websites freezing after Malware removal

Unread postby kit2hugh » May 5th, 2008, 4:24 am

Hello

This site helped me get rid of an intrusive malware infection I had for which I am very greatful.

But since then I have been having touble with websites freezing up saying (Not Responding) next to web address in blue bar at the very top. The only way out is to click on red X you are asked in box to end now, you click on here and all the tabbed websites close if more than one.
you are then asked to send message to MIcrosoft.

This is happening more and more now, it happens mainly when I am in onesite and click on a link in there. But will do it anywhere. I was told it might be that my computer needs some updates from microsoft. ( I then remembered I have not seen the automatic updatescoming in for a while)So I go to Microsofts website I ask for Updates custom, it asks me to upload downloader and jams, with above fault, I can not get past this. I do not want to do automatic download as I do not want M/S media player 11 on my computer.

If someone can tell me whats going on I will be a happy chappie again

Hi Hugh,

This is probably not a malware issue, so I cannot guarantee I can help you. I will do everything to help you myself (with the help of other helpers if needed, but maybe I will have to send you to another forum with more specialized people).

First, let's see the Event Viewer.

Go to Start > Run. In the box, type eventvwr. Look at the System, Application and particularly Internet Explorer log files and report any that are red. We need to know the Event ID and Source.

Also please tell me if you use any other browsers.

Hi,

Your post was not very clear. It is best to do it in the way I posted here:
Code: Select all
System
<source of first red one>
<event id of first red one>

<source of second red one>
<event id of second red one>

<go on like this.>
Application
<The same method as with system>
Just copy the stuff in the code box into your reply and fill in the blanks :) That way I will know exactly what is what.

Greets, John.

Hello

Things never run smoothly do they.

I go to the page you told me to and click on
Yes, I am viewing this Web content both in Internet Explorer and on the computer on which this problem occurs.

At bottom left it comes up saying " Error in Page" and goes no further

So I went to "No, I am not viewing this Web content in Internet Explorer, or I am viewing it on another computer. "

I will have to do it later as I have to go to work now.

If it is not working with your computer try using another computer.

Due to lack of response, this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
