Hey guys, this is the first time I ever got a virus this bad and have been pretty good about protecting my system for a couple of years but finally got a really bad one here. First it disabled my norton antivirus by removing a pff file and disabled task manager. I used the online trend micro scan for free and it couldn't get rid of the virus files. So I uninstalled norton and went to install NOD32 but all things went to hell after I restarted with no protection as it pretty much took over. So after running many scans with NOD32 and removing many things here's my hijack this log file :

So this is what the virus currently does:
On startup, windows welcome is there doing nothing for about 5 secs, then goes to computer wallpaper and it stays there for a good five minutes doing nothing (this is only a couple of months old so yesterday this would have taken 1 esc to load the desktop items, i assume this is the virus starts the take over every time). Then I find it taking over the desktop, it replaces all my computer icons and such with internet shortcuts to spyware stuff. It replaces a window of sort of the desktop than clicking anywhere will transfer me to online site, window says your privacy is in danger. I tried deleting the actual folder it had the images for this and it still came back upon restart. Task manager works now, idk if task manager fix did that or my virus scan. I can't open an exe files, if I do, it always asks me what program to use to open it, I always just pick the same program to open the file. It keeps poping up with windows saying security alert. So upon restarting all this happens plus it doesn't load any programs on start up, not even my antivirus. Any help would be great please.

Welcome to the MWR forums. My name is peku006. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research. Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic. Please stay at one forum for help.
3. Please continue reading posts until I give the All Clear. It is important to note this, as a clean looking HijackThis is not always a sign your system is clean.

Note: I am still in training here at Malware Removal, however I will be working under the direct supervision of one of our Malware Experts. Any recommendations will first be approved before being given to you. Because of this, there may be a short delay in getting our responses to you, however be assured that we will be working diligently on your problem.

Hello hatesviruses

1 - rename hijackthis

There is probably an infection which is hiding part of the HijackThis log because it's called hijackthis.exe.
Please rename hijackthis.exe to scanner.exe

Using Windows Explorer, click on Tools > Folder Options > View tab
Scroll down and UNtick 'Hide extensions for known file types' OK
Then, in Windows Explorer, navigate to: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe
Right-click on HijackThis.exe & select Rename to scanner.exe
after you have renamed hijackthis right click on it and create a new shortcut and put it on your desktop

2 - Spysweeper

Please disable SpySweeper as it may interfere with the fix.
  • Open SpySweeper
  • Click Options
  • Click program options
  • Uncheck load at windows startup
  • On the left click shields and uncheck all there
  • Uncheck home page shield
  • Uncheck automaticly restore default without notifiction
  • Close SpySweeper
Don't forget to re-enable it, when your computer is clean.

3 - SmitfraudFix

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe.
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm

4 - SDFix

Please download SDFix by AndyManchesta and save it to your desktop.
Double click on SDFix.exe. By default, it will install to C:\.
Click on Install.

Please print out or save this set of instructions as you will not have internet access during the fix.

Next, boot into Safe Mode.

When you see BIOS screen, start pressing F8.
A boot menu will appear shortly.
Using the up down arrows, select Safe Mode and press the Enter key.
Windows will now load.
Log in to your usual account.

Navigate to C:\SDfix (if you installed it to the default location, otherwise, locate where you installed it)
Double click on RunThis.bat
Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
Press any key to reboot.
When the PC restarts the tool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
Once the desktop icons load, the SDFix report will open on screen. You can also find the report in SDFix folder, named Report.txt

5 - Check on status
Please reply with
1. the Smitfraudfix raport
3. the SDFix report
2. a fresh HijackThis log
