Hi Dan,
I did a system recovery on 4/09/08. Had to reinstall some drivers, uninstall and reinstall some programs, but all looks good. I've ran AVG's anti-Spyware, Kaspersky Anti-Virus, MalwareBytes, A-Squares Scanner and SpyBot. Somethings were detected and either quaranteed or deleted. My comptuer is alittle slow, but for the most part I am happy with my progress so far. I think I am good as far as Virus/Trojans/Worms. I am posting a new hijack log.....just looked at the log, I don't understand it all but I am pretty sure the BHO and R1 are not good. Maybe I should have formated and started over.
Thank you so very, very much for your time!!!!!
Ginny

Hi, Ladyjasmine,
looks a lot better, well done you. :)
The R1 are not bad just redirects to hp so if you don't use them fix with HJT
____________

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present)

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE= ... pf=desktop
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE= ... pf=desktop
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE= ... pf=desktop
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE= ... pf=desktop
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE= ... pf=desktop
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.comcast.net
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.comcast.net

WITH ALL OTHER WINDOWS CLOSED Click on Fix Checked and exit

---------------------------------

Ok, lets get a couple of scans to check over.

Download and Install CCleaner
  • Download CCleaner from here . Choose the Slim version.
  • Double click on ccsetupXXX_slim.exe to start the installation of CCleaner. (XXX is the version number)
  • Click OK
  • Click Next
  • Click I agree
  • Click Next
  • Click Install
  • Once the installation has finished, click Finish

-------------------------------

Set Options in CCleaner and run Cleaning Scan.
Open CCleaner if it's not already running.
( Do not use the Registry block to clean anything with this program. It is for experts only and it is risky).
  • Select Cleaner Settings.
Check Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, and System so that all items are checked. In the Advanced section, have a check only on Old PreFetch Data.
  • Click on the Options block on the left. Select Advanced.
Uncheck Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours.
  • Set Cookie Retention.
Click on the Options block on the left, then choose Cookies.
Under the Cookies to delete pane, highlight any cookies you would like to retain permanently (those companies or sites with which you regularly visit or do business), and click the right arrow > to move them to the Cookies to keep pane.
  • Run Cleaning Scan. Click on the Cleaner block on the left. Choose the Windows tab.
Click the Run Cleaner button. This process could take a while. When CCleaner shows how much has been removed, cleaning is finished.

----------------------------------

Retrieve the Installed Programs List from CCleaner
Open CCleaner if it's not already running.
In the Left Pane, click Tools
Verify that Uninstall is highlighted in color, or click on it.
In the lower Right, click Save to Text File.
Pull down the arrow at the top of the Save dialog and choose Desktop as the location.
You can leave the filename as install.txt
Click Save
Exit CCleaner by clicking on the X button in the upper right of the CCleaner window.

______________

Can you do another malwarebytes scan so I can see the results

_______________

1 - Kaspersky Online Scan
With the exception of Internet Explorer, which must be used for this scan, keep ALL programs closed
Please do an online scan with >Kaspersky Online Scanner<. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75%. Once the licence accepted, reset to 100%.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
+ Extended (If available otherwise Standard)
    o Scan Options:
    + Scan Archives
    + Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan select My Computer
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Please do not use your computer while the scan is running. Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Click the Save Report As... button (see red arrow below)

    Image

  • In the Save as... prompt, select Desktop
  • In the File name box, name the file KasScan-ddmmyy (or similar)
  • In the Save as type prompt, select Text file (see below)

    Image

  • Copy and paste the report in your next post.
Note: It is recommended to disable onboard antivirus program and antispyware programs while performing scans so there are no conflicts and to speed up scan time.
Please don't go surfing while your resident protection is disabled!
Once scan is finished remember to re-enable resident antivirus protection along with whatever antispyware application you use.

Please include in your next post:
  • uninstall txt
  • Malwarebytes log
  • Kaspersky scan log
  • New highjackthis log

Thank you Dan. I will follow your instructions later on today. I was in the process of trying to back pictures up so I could format the hard drive. I thought I was done for, the computer is really slow. Maybe I won't have to now. I'll get back to you later.

Hi, Ginny what a different machine compared to when you first posted. :)
What happened to your kaspersky a\v I don't see it on your system have you disabled or removed it? only you have no protection.
If you need alternatives I will give you some . let me know. :)

Some old java wants clearing up.

Delete programs
  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove for the following (if present). It could be that they have a space or something between it , but it has to look like it:
  • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03

Lets update adobe reader

uninstall some programs:

1. click on start
2. then go to settings
3. after that you need control panel
4. look for the icon add remove programs
click on the following programs

Adobe Reader 6.0.1

and click on remove

: Update Adobe Reader
It looks like your version of Adobe Reader is out of date and you're vulnarable for infections.
Please download the newest version here:

Unread postby Ladyjasmine » April 14th, 2008, 8:32 pm

I am so irriated with my computer, I'm ready to take a sledge hammer to it. I ran across a error with Adobe. I updated adobe photo and reader and then I had the apdproxy.exe error. I uninstalled both of them. The error went away. I'll reinstall them when my irriation wears off. I reinstalled Kaspersky. It keeps popping up with a proactive defense window; keylogger in the system32/drivers/p2s.sys. I don't know if this is because I am not using the factory keyboard anymore. I go threw about one a year, I drop them all the time. I don't know if it's okay to add this keylogger to the trusted zone or not, but I think I am going to do just so I don't have to look at the popup anymore. I reinstalled the Java. It looked like you said it should, so I reinstalled it. I hope that was the right thing to do. I ran Kaspersy after I installed it last night, it came back clean. I ran a-square's scan and malwarebytes in safemode. A-square first, it found 1 riskware file. Malwarebytes came back clean. I'm including the a-squares log so you can see what I'm talking about. Thank you for your help. I really, really hope my virus/trojan nightmare is over. If I had the money, I would have bought another hard drive, Windows XP and started from scratch. This is all new to me. I have always had my OS software on disk. I THOUGHT I was smart when it came to XP, I have discovered that I'm an idiot. Thank you, I'd be lost without you. MY husband thanks you, I've been driving him crazy.

Ginny, Your log has come back clean, you have done well, considering the work you have done.
Yes, they can be irritating, nice glass of wine should do the trick, does for me!
I reinstalled Kaspersky. It keeps popping up with a proactive defense window; keylogger in the system32/drivers/p2s.sys.

Is the window still popping up even though you scanned and it came back clean?
I don't know if it's okay to add this keylogger to the trusted zone or not, but I think I am going to do just so I don't have to look at the popup anymore.

Don't let anything into your trusted zone that you do not trust, especially a keylogger

I ran Kaspersy after I installed it last night, it came back clean.

Are you saying you added the key logger to the trusted zone or not?
Let me know if your still having problems with adobe reader!

let me know!

HI Dan,
It's good to know that I FINALLY had one false positive. Should I take it out of quaranteen? I did at that keylogger to the trusted zone. I can remove it. Kaspersky's scan came back clean, and I kept getting the pop up about the keylogger. I am also getting a popup saying that a it has detected a modification of a trojan that is in quaranteen. I am going to look for it right now and i'll get back to you.

Hi Dan,
Kaspersky is hard to deal with when you want to print a report. I found these items, I don't use Outlook. I looked at my log with A-squares upload file option, and it said I have alot of trojans/worms/backdoor items. What do I do? I can't believe that I can have more problems after all that has been done.

We have tried kaspersky online scanner and it was clean,
so let's try one more online scan to see what we have :)

Note for Vista Users: Eset is compatible but Internet Explorer must be run as Administrator. To do this, right-click on the IE icon in the Start Menu or Quick Launch Bar on the Taskbar and select "Run as Administrator" from the context menu.

Please go to Eset website to perform an online scan. Please use Internet Explorer as it uses ActiveX.

  1. Check (tick) this box: YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  2. Click on the Start button next to it.
  3. When prompted to run ActiveX. click Yes.
  4. You will be asked to install an ActiveX. Click Install.
  5. Once installed, the scanner will be initialized.
  6. After the scanner is initialized, click Start.
  7. Uncheck (untick) Remove found threats box.
  8. Check (tick) Scan unwanted applications.
  9. Click on Scan.
  10. It will start scanning. Please be patient.
  11. Once the scan is done, you will find a log in C:\Program Files\esetonlinescanner\log.txt. Please post this log in your next reply.

Can I see the A-squares log report

Thanks dan :)

Hi, when you next do a HJT scan can you use this version:

Download and Run HijackThis
Download HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.

* Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install it.
* By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
* Click on Install.
* It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
* Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
* Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
* Copy/Paste the log to your next reply please.

Don't use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
Don't have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

delete the free version from a2 squared visa add and remove programs.
Thanks dan

please post new HJT log
