MySQL service registered as "C:\Archivos.exe"

Unread postby sterroso » April 14th, 2008, 1:37 pm

Hi,

Last weekend my firefox tarted to open a page in a new tab without my intervention. I used my AVG Anti-Virus to scan my computer but nothing was found. Then I scanned it with Hijackthis and found a suspicious line:

O23 - Service: MySQL5 - Unknown owner - C:\Archivos.exe (file missing)

I checked and fixed it and then restarted Windows in safe mode.
When my notebook booted scanned it again with HJT and everything seemend just fine. Anyway I also searched for viruses and once again, nothing was found.

When restarted in normal mode I tried t work with the MySQL5 but I received a message telling me that MySQL5 service was disabled. It was suspicious so I scanned my laptop with HJT but nothing was out of place. I enabled the MySQL5 service in manual start mode and worked with it for a while. After that I stoped the service and scanned my laptop again with HJT and there was again the O23 line saying that my MySQL5 service was registered as "C:\Archivos.exe".

This time I performed a manual search within the windows registry but didn't foud that value.

I realized after some experiments that when HJT repairs this entry the MySQL5 service is set to disabled mode and when I enable the MySQ5 service the O23 line appears again.

Here I post my HJT log:

Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Carolyn and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that it happens.

Please reply to this thread, do not start another.
Please tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
Please tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
Please try as much as possible not to run anything while executing a fix.

As I am still in training, everything that I post to you must be checked by one of the teachers. Thus, there may be a bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long.

If you follow these instructions, everything should go smoothly.

I am sorry that we were unable to reply to your post sooner. The forums have been very busy.

If you are still in need of assistance, please scan again with HijackThis and post a fresh log.

Also, please make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

1. Start HijackThis
2. Click on the Config button
3. Click on the Misc Tools button
4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in your next reply.

Post the fresh HijackThis log and the uninstall list in the body of your next reply.

Due to lack of response this topic is now closed.

If you still require help, please open a new thread in the Infected? Virus, malware, adware, ransomware, oh my! forum, include a fresh FRST log, and wait for a new helper.
