IE Explorer keeps opening (sorry, I replied to 1st post)

I'm sorry, I added a couple of things to my original post and then found I was supposed to leave it at zero. So I posted this again. Please disregard the 1st post and addendums.

Hi, could someone please look at my log file and suggest a course of action? My IE Explorer browser keeps opening every 10-15 minutes and going to Newsit.es hosting. I don't even use Explorer. I use Firefox. The web address is hxxp://whiteboy.whyi.org/slimstat/Log12.php. Has anyone heard of this problem before? I am running XP sp2. I don't know if I should past the log file in here, or attach it, so I did both. Thank you.

Update Java Runtime:

You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system. The most current version of Sun Java is: Java Runtime Environment Version 6 Update 5.

• Go to http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
  
• Go to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 5 and click on Download button.
• In Platform box choose Windows.
• Check the box to Accept License Agreement and click Continue.
• Click on Windows Offline Installation, click on the link under it which says "jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe" and save the downloaded file to your desktop.
• Go to Start => Control Panel => Add or Remove Programs
• Uninstall all old versions of Java (Java 3 Runtime Environment, JRE or JSE)
• Reboot your computer
• Delete the folder C:\Program Files\Java if present
• Install the new version by running the newly-downloaded file with the java icon which will be at your desktop, and follow the on-screen instructions.
• Reboot your computer

Hi, here is the OTMoveIt2 report and the HijackThis log. The IE browser is not opening anymore. What do you think it was? Was it because the java was out of date, or the IE was not up to date? Or did you see a known entry in the HijackThis log that was the problem? Does the log appear to be malware free now? Is there anything else that may be a problem? The IE browser is not opening anymore. What do you think it was? Was it because the java was out of date, or the IE was not up to date? Or did you see a known entry in the HijackThis log that was the problem? Does the log appear to be malware free now? Is there anything else that may be a problem? You were infected. Those line and files we removed were creating the problem.
Better update your IE to SP2 too.
Yes HijackThis log looks clean. Just one more line to remove, and run a scan to see if there is any other infection left on your machine.

I can't see any firewall in your HijackThis log, so i assume you use windows firewall.

FIREWALL
Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. If you use the Windows Firewall you might think that's sufficient but it only controls one way of the traffic (inbound). Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. It's preferable to install one of the suggested firewalls.

Hi, what do you mean by update my ie to sp2? I have the newest version of ie - 7.0.5730.13. I removed the one entry with hijack this - the hijackthis log is pasted below.

I have a router with a hardware router. Isn't this good enough? In the interim, I installed McAfee Internet Security Suite with a software firewall. It is configured for incoming only. McAfee found a bunch of trojans, adware, etc., that Norton didn't, and deleted them.

I downloaded ATF cleaner, but have not run it yet. Is it absolutely necessary? I see it cleans out all my cookies, etc.

I ran Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. The log file is pasted below.

I downloaded ATF cleaner, but have not run it yet. Is it absolutely necessary? I see it cleans out all my cookies, etc.

Do not tick the cookies, and they will not uninstall. Just use it if you want only to empty your temporary files.

Remove/Disable one of your Anti Virus programs.
You are operating your computer with multiple Anti Virus programs running in memory at once:

Symantec
McAfee

Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer. Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.

Please remove/disable one of them.

If you want to install a firewall, do install one from the links i gave you. Its is a plain firewall and not a Whole Security suit which also includes AV+Firewall.

Having a hardware+additional firewall (not Windows Firewall) controls better both incoming and outgoing traffic on your pc.
I have a Nat router and also Comodo Firewall on my pc.

Tell me if you want any help to uninstall McAfee or Symantec. I don't know if they are both paid versions, but you can't have 2 Active Antivirus Applications.

You can occassionally scan your pc online with Kasperskyor other online scanners, or use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware which is a very good one also.

Please decide which Anti-Virus you will uninstall, do it, and post back a new HijackThis log, so i can check if any remainants.

Both Symantec and McAfee sometimes do not uninstall fully and some remainants are left behind.
