Hi and thanks again for your help. I would just like to let you know a few more things. The reason for this is because my AVG caught a virus called "Trojan horse Startpage.CPM". The filename was "C:\WINDOWS\Temp\nsb58A.tmp\utility.dll". And my mom said her computer has been running slower.

She said her McAfee was deleted. It was included in the AOL 9.0 Security Edition. I don't want to delete AVG because it has the virus in the vault.

Please before going to Add Remove programs, read my next 2 posts about OPTIONAL removals. In case you decide to remove them, please do them all the same time.

Go to Start-Settings-Control Panel, click on Add remove Programs. If any of the following programs are listed there, click on the program to highlight it, and click on remove. Then close the Control Panel.

VIEWPOINT-OPTIONAL

I see that Viewpoint is installed. Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player are Viewpoint components which are installed as a side effect of installing other software, most notably AOL and AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Viewpoint Manager is responsible for managing and updating Viewpoint Media Player's components. You can disable this using the Viewpoint Manager Control Panel found in the Windows Control Panel menu. By selecting Disable auto-updating for the Viewpoint Manager -- the player will no longer attempt to check for updates. Anything that is installed without your consent is suspect. Read what Viewpoint says and make your own decision.

To provide a satisfying consumer experience and to operate effectively, the Viewpoint Media Player periodically sends information to servers at Viewpoint. Each installation of the Viewpoint Media Player is identifiable to Viewpoint via a Customer Unique Identifier (CUID), an alphanumeric identifier embedded in the Viewpoint Media Player. The Viewpoint Media Player randomly generates the CUID during installation and uses it to indicate a unique installation of the product. A CUID is never connected to a user's name, email address, or other personal contact information. CUIDs are used for the sole purpose of filtering redundant information. Each of these information exchanges occurs anonymously.

Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without user's approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This may change, read Viewpoint to Plunge Into Adware.
I recommend that you remove the Viewpoint products; however, decide for yourself. To uninstall the the Viewpoint components (Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player):

• Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
• In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
• In Add or Remove Programs, highlight >>Viewpoint component<< , click Remove.
• Do the same for each Viewpoint component.

WILD TANGENT-OPTIONAL

I see you are using Wild Tangent. It is not malware, but is sometimes thought to bring malware along. Wild Tangent is a video game software company specializing in online games. It has even made a partnership with AOL to include itself as part of the AOL Instant Messenger for their AIM games section. The WildTangent Web Driver is their technology that allows you to play 3D games over the Internet. Although it’s not technically considered spyware, it does have built in components to update itself and gather information about the computer system including

• Operating System Version
• CPU Type and Speed
• Memory Amount
  Video Card type and Driver Version
• Sound Card type and Driver Version
• DirectX Version
  Location that the Web Driver was installed from
• It is also a MAJOR resource hog.

Unless you are an extremely avid games player, I recommend you uninstall Wild Tangent: To uninstall Wild Tangent:

• Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

• Close the Add or Remove Programs and the Control Panel windows.

Computer seems to be running a little faster. Also wondered what i should do about the AVG that has virus in vault. Also, I could not find mcafee anywhere. It's not in Add/Remove programs or in explore. It was installed as part of AOL 9.0 Security Center.

1.Good!
2.Empty the Virus Vault.
Right-Click on AVG7 icon on your task bar, click Launch Virus Vault.
Right-Click on the Virus file found there and delete it. You will see a confirmation that your Virus Vault is empty.
3.Ok that's fine. It doesn't show anymore in your reports.

Update Adobe Reader
Recently there have been vunerabilities detected in older versions of Adobe Reader. It is strongly suggested that you update to the current version. Adobe Reader 8.
You can download it from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
If you already have Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition installed or do not wish to have it installed UNcheck the box which says Also Download Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition.

Adobe 8 is a large program and if you prefer a smaller program you can get Foxit 2.0 instead from http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

You can keep Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware if you wish and use it frequently to scan your pc. It is a very good scanner. Just remember to update it often.

Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows XP or Vista then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.

Update your Antivirus programs and other security products regularly to avoid new threats that could infect your system.
