Unread postby Skipswift » March 21st, 2008, 7:29 pm

Hoping to get some help with a potential risk.

Spy Sweeper reports the file below as a Trojan (trojan.gen). HijackThis log is included below.

File:
c:\windows\system32\kill1211.exe

Additional information from Spy Sweeper:
http://research.spysweeper.com/searc...n%20Horse&rc=1

Can someone help me understand what this file really is and if there's a risk?

Welcome to MR!!!! :hello2:

Looks like a false positive to me.

You have a file i would like you to get anaylzed. Please go to VirusTotal. On the very top of the Website, you will see a Browse button. Use that to search for this file c:\windows\system32\kill1211.exe. Then Click on Send. This could take between 30 Second-a couple of minutes. When you get the Results, Open Notepad, please highlight the results, copy them to Notepad and save it as "Scan.txt". Save the text file "Scan.txt" to your desktop. Please include the file in your next post.

Thanks sjpritch25.

I thought it might be a false positive also, but wanted to be certain. Below are the VirusTotal results - four positive results in bold. I found a post at CastleCops that seems to indicate this might be an Acer specific file for the Acer ePower Management suite, but I also found information to indicate that it is in fact a Trojan.

What do you think? Anything else I can do to verify?
