Hi radinx,

I see you're running 2 AV's. Please pick either Norton or AVG and uninstall the other one you didn't pick.

We need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Click on Tools, Settings.
In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Open the Task Manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL and click on the Processes tab. Highlight the following processes:

mssearchnet.exe
nvctrl.exe

and hit End Process for each one.

Run HijackThis and put a check next to the following lines:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {87766247-311C-43B4-8499-3D5FEC94A183} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: HomepageBHO - {893fad3a-931e-4e53-b515-b1426d63799b} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp489D.tmp
O3 - Toolbar: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Companion\Installs\cpn\ycomp5_5_5_0.dll (file missing)
O3 - Toolbar: MSN - {BDAD1DAD-C946-4A17-ADC1-64B5B4FF55D0} - C:\Program Files\MSN Apps\MSN Toolbar\01.02.3000.1001\en-us\msntb.dll (file missing)
O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} - http://207.188.7.150/233916e2ef4a5fcfcc ... xIE601.cab
O16 - DPF: {75D1F3B2-2A21-11D7-97B9-0010DC2A6243} (SecureLogin.SecureControl) - http://secure2.comned.com/signuptemplat ... curity.cab

Now make sure no programs or windows are open and click Fix checked.

Now using Windows Explorer delete the following files (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mssearchnet.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvctrl.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp489D.tmp

Now reboot and post a new HijackThis log.

Hi radinx,

Please download Ewido Security Suite, it is a free version of the program.
  1. Install ewido security suite
  2. When installing the program, under "Additonal Options" uncheck...
    • Install background guard
    • Install scan via context menu
  3. Launch ewido, there should now be an icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  4. The program will now open to the main screen.
  5. When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  6. You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files:
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Then click on Start Update.
  7. The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
(the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  8. Close Ewido Security Suite
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
Ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed, do the following:
  1. Reboot computer into "Safe Mode" using the "F8" method...
    • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Boot Menu appears
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item
  2. Once in Safe Mode start Ewido Security Suite
  3. Click on scanner. (Note: Do not start any programs or open any windows while Ewido is scanning)
  4. Click on Complete System Scan, the scan will now begin.
  5. While the scan is in progress you will be promted to clean files, click OK.
  6. When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a checkmark in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections", then choose clean and click OK.
  7. Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located at the bottom of the screen named Save Report.
  8. Click Save Report.
  9. Now save the report .txt file to your desktop.
  10. Close Ewido Security Suite

Open the Task Manager by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL and click on the Processes tab. Highlight the following processes:

mssearchnet.exe
nvctrl.exe

and hit End Process for each one.

Run HijackThis and put a check next to the following lines:

O2 - BHO: HomepageBHO - {893fad3a-931e-4e53-b515-b1426d63799b} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hpC5C1.tmp

Now make sure no programs or windows are open and click Fix checked.

Now using Windows Explorer delete the following files (if present):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mssearchnet.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvctrl.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\hpC5C1.tmp

Now reboot and post a new HijackThis log along with the Ewido log.
