Hello dumberdest,

===Very Important===

The instructions in this thread have been specifically designed for THIS USER'S MACHINE ONLY . You should not use these instructions to clean your machine. Doing so could cause irreparable damage to your machine. If you need assistance, please start your own thread.
=================

Welcome to the MRU forums.

Sorry it has taken so long for someone to reply. You may have noticed that it is pretty saunter on here and often we just can't get back to people as quickly as we would like.

If you are receiving help at another forum, please let us know so that we can close and archive this thread. That being said, let's move onward.

Nothing jumps right out at me from your log. Can you describe any symptoms that you're having? Do you receive a warning from Norton? If so, what did it say? We need to gather as much information as we can in order to properly identify and fix any problems that you may be having.

I look forward to your reply.

OOPS! I almost forgot:

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Step 1:

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE): Currently Version 6, Update 3.
  • Scroll down to: ""Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u3 allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check-mark (tic): "Accept License Agreement".
  • Page will refresh.
  • Click "Windows Offline Installation (with or without Multilanguage) ".
  • Save to desktop.

Step 2:

Remove older versions:
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially web browser(s).
  • Go to Start => Control Panel
  • Double-click Add/Remove programs.
  • Highlight any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click Remove or Change/Remove.
  • Repeat for any/all versions of Java.

Step 3:

Install newest version:
  • After all Java components are removed:
    Reboot
  • Double-click jre-6u3-windows-i586-p.exe on your desktop.
  • Follow prompts to install new version.

Thank you so much for you time! I decided to reformat the whole com instead.

The christmas.zip live messenger virus only appears when I use the program and it will send to multiple users online automatically. I couldn't remove it even using various other anti-virus scans and programs. Perhaps HijackThis couldn't detect the virus as I wasn't running live messenger while doing the logfile.

But anyhow, thank you so much for your help! I've updated the JRE. Thank you!

Hello dumberdest,

Thanks a lot for advising us of your decision to reformat. Sorry that we didn't get to you sooner. Many times viruses can be detected quite easily, but removal is something else. They don't always show up in HijackThis and it often take several steps to get rid of them.

Format/reinstall is always an option but for most it's also very time-consuming.

Anyway, glad you got your problem solved. That, after all, is the most important thing.

By the way, the best way to ensure that you don't get reinfected is to keep all of your protection as well as your OS updated.
