Kaspersky 7 or AVG?

Unread postby KGhaleon » December 14th, 2007, 4:33 am

I'm cleaning a machine that is heavily infected, but the owner is not willing to have the OS(XP Home) and software reinstalled. I plan to do the best I can to get rid of everything, but I noticed he is running a copy of Kaspersky anti-virus 7.0. Should I leave it or replace it with AVG?

Doesn't seem to be doing its job, despite being updated. I just tried cleaning a bunch of trojans using it, and it practically rebooted for every entry. -_-
I really want to get rid of it...should I?

Are you being paid for fixing this computer?
I notice there is another post with a similar request on this board.
We are NOT providing volunteers to fix computers for those who are being compensated for their "work", nor are we going to provide help to those who want to make their own decisions about system changes.
Deciding to run tools without understanding how they work makes the cleanup job much more difficult, and may permanently trash the system..

I need to know exactly what is going on.
If there is no response within 24 hours, this post will be CLOSED.

I'm just asking out of curiousity. Which is better? I've only used AVG-free.

I don't know where else to ask this question, as it is malware-related.

Kaspersky is an excellent Anti-Virus. About as good as they come.

Of course, if the User downloads garbage, or uses Peer 2 Peer file sharing, there are no applications that can protect him.
Azureas, Limewire and the like are arranged so the protective programs don't come into play until it's too late.
And finding out about the trojans/worms later doesn't necessarily help.
