Hi Greyhound. :)

Welcome to Malware Removal.

Step 1

Please go to Virus Total or Jotti and upload C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolc.exe for scanning.

For Virus Total

  1. Please copy and paste C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolc.exe in the text box next to the Browse button.
  2. Click on Send File.

For Jotti

  1. Please copy and paste C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolc.exe in the text box next to the Browse button.
  2. Click on Submit.

Step 2

  1. Open HijackThis.
  2. Click on the Open the Misc Tools section button.
  3. Look under System tools.
  4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
  5. Click on the Save list... button.
  6. It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default it's named uninstall_list.txt.
  7. Notepad will open. Please post this log in your next reply.

In your next reply, please post:

  1. Virus Total or Jotti's scan results of the file from Step 1
  2. A new HijackThis log
  3. The Uninstall list

Re: Trojan Removal

Unread postby Greyhound » December 15th, 2007, 3:01 pm

Thank you for responding to my infestation. I don't have spoolc.exe in my system, I have looked in the System32 folder and have also done a file search. Also I have found that I don't have access to the "Restore" function by right clicking on My Computer>Properties. I get a message box "Restrictions" This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.
I also cannot access the "Add/Remove" function. There is also a Mal/HckPk-A trojan that I belive activates a pop-up telling me that I have a virus and ask if I want to Install a Virus Removal Tool. I'm sure this is bogus.
I run Spy Sweeer and I deletes it but it keeps coming back everytime I restart my computer. I am also running Trojan Hunter 5, Digital Patrol, XoftSpy SE, and Windows Defender software. They all remove different Trojans but not permanently. I appreciate your help in this and am sorry to add more to the problem.

Thank you,
Greyhound

Re: Trojan Removal

Unread postby ndmmxiaomayi » December 16th, 2007, 1:42 am

Hi Greyhound,

Step 1

Please disable these protection programs temporarily as it may interfere with the fixes. You can re-enable them when your computer is clean.

Disable Windows Defender temporarily

  1. Go to Start > All Programs > Windows Defender.
  2. Click on Tools at the top.
  3. Under Settings, click on Options.
  4. Under Automatic scanning, uncheck (untick) Automatically scan my computer (recommended) box.
  5. Under Real-time protection options, uncheck (untick) Use real-time protection (recommended) box.
  6. Click on the Save button at the bottom right hand corner.

Disable TrojanHunter temporarily

  1. Right click on TrojanHunter near the clock and select Settings.
  2. Uncheck (untick) all the boxes there.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Right click on TrojanHunter icon again and select Unload TrojanHunter Guard.
  5. You will be prompted. Click Yes.

Disable Webroot Spysweeper temporarily

  1. Right click on Spysweeper icon near the clock and select Shields.
  2. Select the Web Browser tab. Uncheck (untick) all the boxes there.
  3. Select the Network tab. Uncheck (untick) all the boxes there.
  4. Select the Windows System tab. Uncheck (untick) all the boxes there.
  5. Select the Startup tab. Uncheck (untick) Startup items box.
  6. Select the Email Attachments tab. Uncheck (untick) Email Attachments* box.
  7. Right click on Spysweeper icon and select Shutdown.

Step 2

If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.

Please download Combofix from Bleeping Computer. Save it to your desktop.

If you can't download it, please try these 2 alternative sites:

Forospyware
Geeks to Go

Double click to run it. Follow the prompts. Once done, it will reboot and a log will be produced. Please post that log and a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

Do not mouse click on Combofix while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Step 3

  1. Combofix log (C:\Combofix.txt)
  2. A new HijackThis log
  3. The Uninstall list

Should I be giving you a HijackThis log before any of my removal software is run? Also should any of the software you recommend I download and run be done before removal?

Thanks,
Greyhound

The HijackThis log should be posted after running the removal tools.

The tools that I've you to download will remove some infections when you run the tools.

I don't have C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\1246857284.sys in my system. I did a search and looked in the Systems32 folder, not there.

Thanks,

Hi,

Just copy and paste the file path in, don't search for it.
