Hello and Welcome to the forums!

My name is Gringo and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems. HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that it happens.

Please observe the following while we work:
If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't continue, we don't want to start all over again!
Understand that cleaning your computer can sometimes take multiple passes/posts, and it's important to follow the steps in the order that I give them including re-running scans if needed. If you don't follow the instructions in the order I give them or you try something you read in another post you can reinfect this computer again and we will have to start over.
Please reply to this thread, do not start another.
Please tell me about any problems that have occurred during the fix.
Please tell me of any other symptoms you may be having as these can help also.
Please try as much as possible not to run anything while executing a fix.

As I am still on training, everything that I post to you, must be checked by an Admin or Moderator. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long.

If you follow these instructions, everything should go smoothly.

we are currently looking at your log now and will be back as soon as possible with your instructions.

Hello postrophe

Are you experiencing anything unusual on your computer your log shows no malware at this time

teatimer

Please disable Teatimer as it may interfere with the fix.

First:
*Right click Spybot in the System Tray (looks like a calendar with a padlock symbol)
*Choose Exit Spybot S&D Resident

Second:
*Open Spybot S&D
*Click Mode, check Advanced Mode
*Go To Left Panel, Click Tools, then also in left panel, click Resident
*If your firewall raises a question, say OK
*Uncheck the box labeled Resident Tea-Timer and OK any prompts.
*Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
*Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

: Remove bad HijackThis entries

  • Run HijackThis
  • Click on the Scan button
  • Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

  • Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
  • Click on the "Fix Checked" button
  • When completed, close the application.

Kaspersky Online Scan

next I am going to have you do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Run Kaspersky Online Scan here

* Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner
* next you will need to click on accept for their disclaimer(if you are using IE7 and can't see the accept button click on the zoom tool at the bottem right of the screen and bring down the zoom to 75% afterwords set it back to 100%)
* You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, look for a yellow bar at the top of the web page it might take a minute or two for it to show up be patient when it does show up right click on the bar and select allow ActiveX
* then it will ask you to install click install
* The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files: this will take a little while so be patient Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
* Now click on Scan Settings
* In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
*Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:Extended(if available otherwise Standard)
*Scan Options: Scan Archives and Scan Mail Bases Click OK
Before you do the next section you should disable your antivirus
Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
This will program will start and scan your system.
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
Now click on the Save as Text button:
Save the file to your desktop.
Then post the contents of this log and a new hijackthis log into your next post next post

This is a friends laptop that he just purchased. He asked me to look at it for him since it wasn't working correctly. Adaware SE, Spybot SD, and AVG found multiple things on it. I've used those programs on my PC for a few years now, and had ran them on the laptop before I even came to this site to seek further help.

I haven't used this laptop much other than removing unwanted items and a viruses. Since cleaning it up the only thing I notice now thats unusual is some settings change on their own. If I choose to set the desktop theme to windows classic, it infrenquently will change back to windows xp theme.

Now to your instructions.

I have tried 3 times to disable Teatimer. The first 2 times the Spybot resident popped up and said that the change wasn't allowed. Restarted anyway, the resident icon was back in the system tray. The 3rd had no such pop up, but upon restart the icon was back in the system tray. I never get any ok promts when unchecking the resident in spybot tools.

Also I noticed while reading ahead through the instructions you ask that I turn off antivirus software to run the Kaspersky scan. The laptop has Trend Micro PC-cillin internet security 12 on it. I am unfamiliar with this program as I prefer AVG. I am asked for a password to do just about anything with PC-cillian, including turning it off. I'm not sure my friend has a password for it. I think it was on there when he got the laptop, but will ask him.

Awaiting any further instructions you might have on where to go from here.

Thanks

This is a two part process are you doing both parts? If you can't shut it off just move to do the Kaspersky scan.

Just leave it on, we ask you to disable it just as a precaution but 99% of people don't have a problem when it is left on go ahead and run the Kaspersky scan even if we haven't found the problem with teatimer

Yeah, I was doin both parts to shut off teatimer. Guess it doesn't matter now though. My friend came and picked up his laptop late last night.

Thanks for your time and trouble
