Hi! :)
I’m Gary R. I’ll be glad to help you with your computer problems.
HijackThis logs take a while to research. Please be patient with me. I know that you want your problems solved quicky, and I will work hard to help you.

Please observe these rules while we work:
1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

If you can do those two things, everything should go smoothly :D

You currently are running HijackThis from here:
C:\Documents and Settings\Scott\Desktop\HijackThis.exe

Please make a folder here:
C:/HJT
and place HijackThis in that folder.

DO NOT follow the steps below until you have moved HijackThis

I'll need a Startup List from you, to create this, open HJT.
Now click on the Config button. Click on the Misc Tools button, and then the Generate Startup List Log. Check the following 2 items before generating list "List also Minor Sections" and "List Empty Sections".

The log will be saved in your HJT folder.

Send it along with a new HJT log please.

Hi Scottnshelly,

Thanks for the Startup List, but I also asked for a new HJT log as well, and you did not include this.

Please send it as I need to see that you've moved HJT before I can offer a fix. (Having HJT in its current position will interfere with what we need to do).

Hi Scottnshelly,

You appear to have a Lop infection.

Please print out these instructions, or save to a text file that you can view, as you are going to be offline for part of the cure, and will not have access to them.

First I'd like you to download KillBox and unzip it to your desktop. Don't run it yet.

Also download CleanUp to your desktop. Don't run it yet.

Now halt this Process (if found), by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, this will bring up Windows Task Manager. Click on the Processes tab, scroll down to find the process, then click on the End Process button.

Ares.exe

Perform a scan using HJT, and check the following items (if found).

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.bbfzomposwotsrqwytfkv.uk/2P3 ... G/WXpw.htm

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... .yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customi ... .yahoo.com

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {023471CC-4A44-EFF4-37D9-ECF55EFFF861} - C:\DOCUME~1\Scott\APPLIC~1\GREYDE~1\RealDeaf.exe

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [STUPIDRULELICENSEMOVE] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\setup cool stupid rule\tick bits.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ares] "C:\Program Files\Ares\Ares.exe" -h
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Intra about] C:\DOCUME~1\Scott\APPLIC~1\SECTPA~1\Gramopen.exe
O4 - Global Startup: First Alert.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\First Alert\TrueWeather.exe

Close all windows except for the HJT window, and click the Fix Checked button.

Exit out of HijackThis.

Make sure that you can see hidden files.
1. Click Start.
2. Click My Computer.
3. Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
4. Select the View Tab.
5. Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
6. Click Yes to confirm.
7. Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
8. Click OK.

Search for Hidden Files
By default, the Search companion does not search for hidden files. Because of this, you may be unable to find files, even though they exist on the drive.

To search for hidden or system files in Windows XP:

Click Start, click Search, click All files and folders, and then click More advanced options.
1. Click to select the Search hidden files and folders check boxes.

Before we can use Killbox to delete some files, I need you to find some information. Below you will see a list of filepaths to files that need deleting.
Two of them have folders, GREYDE~1 and SECTPA~1 these will not be the folder names you will find on your PC. But the folders will start with GREYDE and SECTPA.
I need you to input the full names of these folders into the file paths below, in place of GREYDE~1 and SECTPA~1.

Ok lets use Killbox to remove some files:

Open Killbox and check a mark in the "RadioBox" which says "Delete On Reboot"

Under "Full Path or File to Delete" copy and paste the first of the entries below.

C:\Documents and Settings\Scott\Application Data
\GREYDE~1\RealDeaf.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\setup cool stupid rule\tick bits.exe
C:\Program Files\Ares\Ares.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Scott\Application Data
\SECTPA~1\Gramopen.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\First Alert\TrueWeather.exe

Now press the red cross and a new window will pop up asking you to confirm the removal CLICK YES

Now it will ask you if you wish to reboot click No as we have more files to delete.

Continue till you have inputted all the files. Now when it asks you if you wish to reboot click Yes and the computer will restart.

After your computer reboots, delete the following folders.

These Folders

C:\Documents and Settings\Scott\Application Data\GREYDE~1
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\setup cool stupid rule
C:\Program Files\Ares
C:\Documents and Settings\Scott\Application Data\SECTPA~1
C:\Program Files\Common Files\First Alert

Next I'd like you to run CleanUp.
Click the Options button, and select Standard Clean Up then click OK.
Now click Clean Up. Allow the scan to run, when it is finished click Close and a window will open asking you to allow Clean Up to log you off.
Answer yes, and CleanUp will log you off and delete the files it found.

Log back on.

Now, please download: Microsoft Task Scheduler Command Line Utility

Unzip and copy jt.exe to your Windows folder. C:\Windows

Open Notepad, copy and paste the text in the box below and "Save As" KillJobs.bat
In the "Save as type" select: All Files

Note: to open Notepad, click Start>Run then type Notepad.exe, then click OK.

Code: Select all
@echo off
jt /sd AB6DA32391AA5913.job

Copy KillJobs.bat to your Windows folder. C:\Windows

Double-click on "KillJobs.bat"
(when prompted, allow the file to run).

Reboot and send me a new HJT log please, and a new Startup list.

IMPORTANT
It is unclear from your log whether or not you have a firewall installed. If you have one running, please disregard this. If it is disabled, please enable it.
If you are using the firewall that comes with Service Pack 2, you should replace it. It doesn't monitor outgoing traffic, so anything on your computer can 'phone home' at will.
There are a couple of free firewalls available.
Zone Alarm: Available here
Sygate: Available here

It is important to note that you should only have one firewall installed at a time, but you can download both to your Desktop and install each in turn to see which one you prefer.
