I am not sure this is a related issues or other problem, but I have also getting lots of "the memory could not be read" errors, when loading programs or installing software.

Any help gladly received am going slightly mad trying to figure this out.

Thanks,
Ben

Please don't post logs in quote/code boxes, it makes them harder for me to read

  • Go to Start > My Computer
  • Go to Tools > Folder Options
  • Click on the View tab
  • Untick the following:
    • Hide extensions for known file types
    • Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
  • You will get a message warning you about showing protected operating system files, click Yes
  • Make sure this option is selected:
    • Show hidden files and folders
  • Click Apply and then click OK

Run HijackThis
Click on do a system scan only
Place a checkmark next to these lines(if still present)

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C5D2E8E-0269-4D2E-8EFD-3E38541AB9F8} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {77620F60-5C64-4B6A-B7BC-C15B8A3F9E11} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\gebya.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SearchIndexer] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\bwfdywlc.dll",sitypnow
O20 - Winlogon Notify: wineij32 - wineij32.dll (file missing)

Then close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix Checked

Restart

Use windows explorer to find and delete these files:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\gebya.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\bwfdywlc.dll

As an example:
To delete C:\WINDOWS\system32\filetogo.bye
Double click the My Computer icon on your Desktop.
Double click on Local Disc (C:\)
Double click on the Windows folder,
Double click on the System 32 folder,
Right click on filetogo.bye and from the menu that appears, click on 'Delete'

Go here to run an online scannner from ESET.
  • Note: You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked, and the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
  • Click Scan
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic, along with anew HijackThis log and description of any remaining problems

Thank you for getting back to me. Fortunately I have managed to fix the issue just this morning. I used SUPER Anti Spyware that picked up a few things that other removers (SpyBot etc.) failed to get and it also managed to remove them. So far so good - nothing has reappeared yet.

Ben
