several instances of "iexplore.exe" running

I've been advised to post a hjt log regarding this, but don't want to waste your valuable time, if this is a case of "normal but erratic" behaviour.
With IE7 open and 4/5 tabs up, I noticed that cpu usage was never below 47%.
when explorer was closed, there were still three instances of iexplore.exe running, and cpu usage remained over 47%.
I closed two of them with "End Task", and things returned to normal.
Should I be worried??
Any advice gratefully received

I suggest that you post a log. This shouldn't happen.
