error message when trying to open pages.

Unread postby ARFF1Tampa » September 17th, 2007, 6:52 pm

I am getting this message now when trying to open certain websites that I have never had trouble with before. the message is- The instruction at "0x7c901010" referenced memory at "0X0000001c". The memory could not be "read". It pops up after the computer goes to the desktop instead of the page. I researched it a little and saw mostly where people recommended hijack this. Here is my most recent log. Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1

Also, this started happening after I installed a program that a friend sent to me called Pando for sending files by email that are larger than normally allowed. Not sure if it is the cause of the website problem, but it started happening just after I installed it.

Hello and welcome to the forums

My name is Katana and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please observe these rules while we work:
1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
3. Please continue to respond until I give you the "All Clear"
(Just because you can't see a problem doesn't mean it isn't there)

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly :D

I apologize for the delay in responding, but as you can probably see the forums are quite busy
and helpers look for posts with zero replies.
Unfortunately there are far more people needing help than there are helpers.

If you still require help please post a fresh Hijack This log to this thread.
I will be notified and I will get back to you ASAP.

I fixed most of the problems (found the bad file that was hanging up/freezing the computer and AVG), but I am still not able to visit my wife's breast cancer donation site any more. Here is the latest log. If you see anything major we can work on it. If it doesn't look bad, I'm ok for now and wouldn't mind if you needed to help someone with worse problems. Thanks. Hi Gary :)
There is nothing dramatic showing in your HJT log, but that doesn't mean you get no help

Kaspersky Online Scanner .

Go Here http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Read the Requirements and limitations before you click Accept.
Allow the ActiveX download if necessary
Once the database has downloaded, click Next.
Click Scan Settings and change the "Scan using the following antivirus database" from standard to extended and then click OK.
Click on "My Computer" and then put the kettle on!
When the scan has completed, click Save Report As...
Enter a name for the file in the Filename: text box and then click the down arrow to the right of Save as type: and select text file (*.txt)
Click Save - by default the file will be saved to your Desktop, but you can change this if you wish.

Please post the Kaspersky Log in your reply

When you copy the log, please can you make sure word wrap is off.
In notepad click Format and make sure there is no tick next to word wrap.

Kaspersky 30 day trial says it will not install unless I remove my AVG antivirus. I really don't want to remove it as it's not just a trial. I'll just close out this topic and repost in the future if any other problems develope. Thanks , Gary.

You don't need to install Kaspersky, just click the "Free Online Scan" button

Your logs look clean, this is very strange ???
ARFF1Tampa wrote: but I am still not able to visit my wife's breast cancer donation site any more.

When did this start to happen ?
Which site is it ?

Installed Programs
Please could you give me a list of the programs that are installed.
  • Start HijackThis
  • Click on the Config button
  • Click on the Misc Tools button
  • Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

You will see a list with the programs installed in your computer.
Click on save list button and specify where you would like to save this file.
When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file.
Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad into your next post.

It started about 2 weeks ago. the site is http://www.the3day.org/tampabay07/joannetinschert . The computer goes to the desktop with the iexplorer.exe-Application Error The instruction at "0x7c901010" referenced memory at ")x0000001c". The memory could not be "read". I can get to it on my other computers, but not this on on IE or Firefox. It's no big deal though. All the other problems are gone.

After some research, it seems that toolbars can cause this problem.
Did you install any new toolbars about the time this problem started ?

I don't use toolbars and try to not install new ones but i do have a Yahoo toolbar now. It is in add/remove programs but I will wait til you tell me if it's ok to uninstall/remove it that way.

Looking at your log, you have a google toolbar plugin and a Pando networks plugin

Do you know what the Pando networks is for ?

The Pando is a program that a friend sent which enables emails to send files larger than normally allowed. The problem did start pretty soon after I installed it.
