Unread postby Hannakke » September 22nd, 2007, 11:57 am

hello,
Can you please help me with this pc. Its extremely slow and there are annoying windows showing when surfing the internet.

Somebody helped me here at home. On his list, it says he did this:
Spybotscan
adaware
uninstall symantec antivir
install avg antivir
avg antispyware
online scanners.

He has been working quite some time, and things are much better now. He said I must come here to be sure everything is ok.
I really hope you can help me.
Thanks!!
Hannah

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

My name is Simon V., and I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.

HijackThis logs can take some time to research, so please be patient with me. I know that you need your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happens.
I am currently looking over your log. As I am a trainee, everything that I post to you must be checked by an Admin or Moderator. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long. I will post back shortly with a potential fix.

Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:

  • I will be working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

Thank you! I appreciate you want to help me. Take your time.
I noticed you live in Antwerp, Belgium. I live in Meerhout, like 45km of Antwerp. I assume you speak dutch then.

Bedankt om me te willen helpen, Simon

    Hi :)

I do speak Dutch, but as this is an English forum I will be helping you in English ;)

    Fix Entries with HijackThis

  • Open HijackThis, perform a scan and put a check next to the following items (if present):

    R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {753288F4-1718-19CA-6D24-4171BF01979E} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

Close all programs except HijackThis and click on Fix checked.

    Update Java
  • Your Java software is out of date. Follow these instructions to update it:
    • Go to Start and click on Control Panel, then double-click on Add or Remove Programs.
    • Search for previously installed versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment), and remove it. It should have this icon next to it: Image
    • Then download and install Java Runtime Environment Version 6u2.
    Download and Run FindAWF
  • Please download FindAWF here: http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/FindAWF.exe and save it to your desktop.
    • Double-click on FindAWF.exe to run the program, you will presented with a list of options. Press 1, then Enter.
    • Your computer will be scanned, this can take a while. When finished, a Notepad file will open. Save it to a convenient location.
    Make an Uninstall List
  • To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

    1. Start HijackThis
    2. Click on the Config button
    3. Click on the Misc Tools button
    4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
    5. Click on the Save list... button and save the file to a convenient location. When you press Save, Notepad will open with the contents of that file.

    Report Back
  • Please post the report from FindAWF and the Uninstall List, along with a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

    Hi :)

In your first post, you said that someone already ran some scans before you came here. Has he saved those reports on your computer (AVG Anti-Spyware Scan, and the Online Scans)? If so, can you please post them here? Also, are you experiencing any problems with your computer (as it looks quite clean)?

    Fix Entries with HijackThis

  • Open HijackThis, perform a scan and put a check next to the following items (if present):

    O16 - DPF: {2F003D51-39FD-4D18-9016-95CF70B92ABE} - http://download.movienetworks.com/insta ... mtscab.cab
    O16 - DPF: {3AF4DACE-36ED-42EF-9DFC-ADC34DA30CFF} (PatchInstaller.Installer) - file://D:\content\include\XPPatchInstaller.CAB
    O16 - DPF: {4E15D681-1D20-11D4-8B72-000021DA1956} - http://www.e-sexcash.com/plugin/1003/di ... kontnl.exe
    O20 - AppInit_DLLs:

Close all programs except HijackThis and click on Fix checked.
  • In your next reply, please post a new HijackThis log and answer the questions I asked.

Hello simon,

I just phoned the guy that helped me. He tried to instruct me at the phone how to get those logs. I'm not that good with computers, so that did not went to well.
I could only find the log of 'bitdefender online scan'. I post it here.
There seems to be no log in avg antispyware???
According to the man that helped me, he is pretty sure that my computer is clean again.
Also, I dont have problems surfing. In the past, there were many annoying windows opening all the time... that has fisished now. So I think my computer is back to normal again. The man who helped me also told me alot about how to surf the internet in a save way. I will certainly follow his instructions and hope things wont go wrong again.

Here are the logs:

    Hi :)

That’s looking good. I have some advice for you, to prevent future infections. It could be that I’m telling you the same as the man that helped you, but please read it ;)

    Prevention

  • Congratulations, your log looks clean. Please advise of any problems you are still experiencing, or follow these simple steps to keep your computer clean in the future:
    • Delete Tools - You can now delete the following files/folders:
      • FindAWF.exe
    • Disable and Enable System Restore - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.
      • Turn off System Restore.
      • On the desktop, right-click My Computer
      • Click Properties
      • Click the System Restore tab
      • Check Turn off System Restore
      • Click Apply, and then click OK
      • Reboot.
      • Turn on System Restore.
      • On the desktop, right-click My Computer
      • Click Properties
      • Click the System Restore tab
      • Uncheck Turn off System Restore
      • Click Apply, and then click OK
NOTE: only do this ONCE, NOT on a regular basis!
    • Make your Internet Explorer more secure
      • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
      • Click once on the Security tab.
      • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
      • Click once on the Custom Level button.
        • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt.
        • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable.
        • Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable.
        • Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt.
        • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt.
        • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt.
        • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
        • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
      • Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
    • Update your Anti-Virus Software - It is very imprtant that you update your Anti-Virus software at least once a week (even more if you wish). If you do not update your Anti-Virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
    • Visit Microsoft's Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://update.microsoft.com/ regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
    • Update all your programs regularly - Make sure you update all the security programs that you have installed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Hi simon,
A very big thanks for helping me here!!!
i think you all are heroes. Helping people with their computer problems on a voluntary base. Thats really wonderfull.

The "man that helped me" phoned me to find out how it was. He told me he was a 'freshman'(??? hope i got this right ???) here to, but his daughter had an accident some months ago and thats why he did not completed the course. Het told me his was know as gagaman here.

I'm very glad that you helped me and I will read you tips for safe surfing very profoundly!

Goodluck with your anti-malware education. From me you get 10/10 ;)

It seems that he knows what he is talking about (seeing your protection programs installed), too bad he couldn't complete the training.
