Register to Remove

Unread postby Kairis » September 22nd, 2007, 10:49 am

Ok, lets continue:
== Remove MS Java ==

The Microsoft Java Virtual Machine, or MS Java VM, is used to run Java applets that can be found on web sites.
When you visit a web site that has a Java applet, the MS JVM will compile and execute that applet on your machine.
Microsoft no longer supports the MS JVM and it has become obsolete. There have also been known security issues with
unpatched versions of the MS JVM and you should remove it and install the safer SUN JVM as an alternative (instructions follow).

Instructions on how to remove MS Java can be found here

== Download JAVA ==
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.
== Disable/delete service ==

Please click Start > Run and type in: services.msc
Click OK
In the Services window find: VETMSGNT
Select/highlight and right click the entry, and choose: Properties
On the General tab, under Service Status click the Stop button
Beside: Startup Type, in the drop menu, select: Disabled
Click Apply, then OK
Now, go to Start > Run, and copy/paste the following into the Open box:
sc delete VETMSGNT
Click: OK

== Run HJT Scan ==
  • Start HijackThis as you did to generate a log, but this time click on 'Do a system scan only'.
  • Place a checkmark in the boxes to the left of the following entries, by clicking on them:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CaAvTray] "C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Antivirus\CAVTray.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CAVRID] "C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Antivirus\CAVRID.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [YOP] C:\PROGRA~1\Yahoo!\YOP\yop.exe /autostart
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpyShredder] C:\Program Files\SpyShredder\SpyShredder.exe
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msjava.dll (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\msjava.dll (file missing)
    O23 - Service: VET Message Service (VETMSGNT) - Computer Associates International, Inc. - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Antivirus\VetMsg.exe
  • Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
  • Click on the "Fix Checked" button
  • When completed, close the application.
== Show hidden files and folders ==
  • Set your system to show all files.
  • Navigate to Start | My Computer | Tools | Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab. Under the "Hidden Files and Folders" heading, select "Show hidden files and folders".
  • Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
== Delete folders/files ==
  • Click My Computer
  • Double click the C Drive
  • Double click the Program Files folder
  • Locate the Folder Yahoo!\Antivirus
  • Right click it and select Delete
  • Locate the Folder Yahoo!\YOP
  • Right click it and select Delete
  • Locate the Folder SpyShredder
  • Right click it and select Delete
  • Don't worry for files/folders not found

== Check on status ==
After you have completed the above, please provide:
* new HijackThis log
* description of any problems you are having with your PC

Uninstalling the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine (JVM)

Please follow these steps to uninstall the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine:

1. Click on the Start menu, then select the Run option.

2. In the Open: field type in or copy and paste the following text

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection java.inf,UnInstall

3. Then press the OK button.

The PC is not able to download files, even with Firefox browser, even only 3 MB size. I need to find out what setting of what process is causing downloads to quit prematurely.

Thanks, Kairis

downloading problem

Unread postby rickchan6 » October 5th, 2007, 2:26 pm

Hi Kairis,
I get no error messages when attempting to download in either Firefox or Internet Explorer.

In Firefox I frequently get "The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading." when navigating through pages. I have to hit Refresh to get the page. When attempting to download, the "downloads" window appears and the file shows up as finished downloading, but the file is only maybe 200 KB in size.

In Internet Explorer, I frequently get "The page cannot be displayed." when navigating through pages. When attempting to download, the progress dialog never appears, and no file is created on harddrive. But the site such as shareware.com says "Thank you for downloading ..."

(There is no problem with my Internet connection. My laptop can download files without problem and does not show any errors while navigating.)
Thanks,
Rick

You can try this:
First enable Windows firewall.
Then disable McAfee Firewall.
Did this help you?
