hijackthis log enclosed

Unread postby s033 » September 12th, 2007, 11:13 am

I accidentally clicked on a link without paying close attention to the URL itself not long ago. As soon as I realised it was slightly suspicious (it had some php= thing in there, I was once told that these redirect the URL, or something along those lines). Anyway, I closed the window I was browsing in, but I'm not sure if I a keylogger got a chance to install itself on my computer.

Then I got somewhat anxious and downloaded a few spyware programs, adaware, spybot, hijackthis, spyeraser... and ran all those to look for any 'infections'. I also did a Process scan using that Process list website thing, and also ran an antivirus check using AVG.

After all that, it said nothing was suspicious but I want to be careful anyway. So if you wouldn't mind taking a look at my Hijackthis log, I'd really appreciate it. I don't know much about computers, but I guess I freaked out about all this. Thanks for looking over my log.

Hello and welcome to the forums

My name is Katana and I will be helping you to remove any infection(s) that you may have.

Please observe these rules while we work:
1. If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
2. Please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
3. Please continue to respond until I give you the "All Clear"
(Just because you can't see a problem doesn't mean it isn't there)

If you can do those three things, everything should go smoothly :D

I apologize for the delay in responding, but as you can probably see the forums are quite busy
and sometimes a post manages to slip by us.
Unfortunately there are far more people needing help than there are helpers.

If you still require help please post a fresh Hijack This log to this thread.
I will be notified and I will get back to you ASAP.

Hi Katana, Thanks for replying. I haven't checked this forum often since I last posted, but yeah it did appear that the forums were very busy.

Here's my latest hikackthis log, I've run Adaware, Spybot and Ewido (AVG Anti-Spyware) before doing a Hijackthis scan. Hopefully you can tell me there's nothing to be paranoid about, but I've had issues where I have had malware on my computer before, just didn't want to repeat that again.

Hi s033,
Your log is looking good :)

You can remove these two entries, they are nothing to worry about just not needed.
Fix With HJT
Close all other windows and then start HiJack This
Click Do A System Scan Only
When it has finished scanning put a check next to the following lines
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Alcmtr] ALCMTR.EXE

- Close ALL open windows (especially Internet Explorer!)-
Now click Fix checked
Click yes to any prompts
Close HijackThis

The only other thing I can recommend is a Firewall.
Firewall
You do not appear to have a firewall.
You may be using Windows firewall, however this only stops incoming traffic.
A third party firewall is much safer, as it stops malware that does get on your PC from contacting "home"
Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For more info, check this webpage out.
There are many free ones to choose from if cost is a problem. Visit here to choose one.

If you are not having any problems, you look good to go :)

Hi Katana,

Thanks for your help in assuring me that everything's ok. Nice to know I wasn't infected with anything malicious afterall. The cleanup using HiJackThis went smoothly and I also managed to install a firewall as you recommended.

Anyway this experience ahs taught me to not freak out too much about things, and how I can be more secure while online. Thanks again and much <3 for all the work you guys do.

Cheers. :)
