Malware: TROJ_AGENT.PRZ

Unread postby elbee » August 5th, 2007, 8:18 am

I am unable to clean or remove malware (Troj_Agent.prx) found by housecall in file: c:\windows\system32\cryend.dll. I have rebooted to safe mode and attempted to move and/or delete the file, but cannot. I get a message stating the file is in use by another person or program. What else could I do to remove this malware?

Hello elbee. :)

Please open FindAWF again. This time, press the number 2.

Notepad will open. Please copy and paste the following in the Code box into this Notepad file. Make sure that it's after the line, not before.

Code: Select all
"C:\hp\KBD\bak\KBD.EXE"
"C:\Program Files\SymNetDrv\bak\SNDMon.exe"
"C:\WINDOWS\SMINST\bak\RECGUARD.EXE"
"C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\bak\hpsysdrv.exe"
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\bak\ccApp.exe"
"C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\bak\hpztsb04.exe"

Click on File > Save. Do not choose the Save As... option.

FindAWF will now start removing the bad files. When done, a log will be produced. Do not close this log file.

Next, press the number 4. Once done, the tool will return to the main menu.

Press E to close FindAWF.

Please post the FindAWF log file and a new HijackThis log in your next reply.

Hello elbee. :)

Let's clean up some of the mess.

Step 1

Please open FindAWF and press the number 3.

In the Notepad file that opens, copy and paste the following in the Code box into Notepad. Make sure that it's after the line, not before.

Note:Do not type it out to minimize the risk of typo error.

Code: Select all
C:\hp\KBD\bak
C:\Program Files\SymNetDrv\bak
C:\WINDOWS\SMINST\bak
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\bak
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\bak
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\bak
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\bak

Click on File > Save. Do not choose the Save As... option. Close this Notepad file.

FindAWF will now delete the bad folders. Once done, a log will produced. Do not close this log.

Step 2

  1. Open HijackThis.
  2. Select Open the Misc Tools section.
  3. Look under System tools.
  4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager... button.
  5. Click on the Save list... button.
  6. It will prompt you to save. Save this log in a convenient location. By default it's named uninstall_list.txt.
  7. Notepad will open. Please post back this list in your next reply.

Step 3

Please download Combofix by sUBs from Tech Support Forum or Bleeping Computer.

Save it to your to your desktop. Double click to run it. Follow the prompts on screen. Once done, it will produce a log. Please post this log in your next reply.

Note: Do not mouse click on Combofix while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Step 4

Please open Notepad and copy and paste the following in the Code box into Notepad.

Note:Do not type it out to minimize the risk of typo error.

Code: Select all
if exist C:\look*.txt del /q C:\look*.txt
if exist C:\results.txt del /q C:\results.txt
regedit /e C:\look.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SharedAccess\Parameters\FirewallPolicy\StandardProfile\AuthorizedApplications\List
regedit /e C:\look1.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon"
type C:\look*.txt >> C:\results.txt
del /q C:\look*.txt
start notepad C:\results.txt

Click on File > Save As....

In the File Name field, copy and paste in look.bat
In the Save As Type field, select All Files from the drop-down menu.

Click Save.

Double click on look.bat to run it. A Command Prompt window will open and close quickly; this is normal. Notepad will open shortly afterwards. Please post the contents of this log file in your next reply.

In your next reply, please post:

  1. FindAWF log
  2. Uninstall list
  3. Combofix log (C:\Combofix.txt)
  4. The contents of Notepad from Step 4
