Unread postby Sekra » July 16th, 2007, 5:54 pm

Hi Sekra and welcome to the Malware Removal forums.
My name is Vino Rosso - if it helps, you can call me Vino for short. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems.

HijackThis logs can take a little time to research so please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Finally, please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.
1 - VundoFix
Please download VundoFix.exe from >here< and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run again on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

When VundoFix has finished, use Windows Explorer to go to C:\vundofix.txt and double-click on the file - Notepad will open.
Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Copy
Paste (Ctrl+V) the content with your next reply.

2 - Check on status
After you have completed the above, please provide:
  • the vundofix.txt report
  • a new HijackThis log
  • and a description of how your PC is behaving - what problems are you experiencing?
Thanks
Vino

I had ran Vundofix earlier many times but it seems it was an older version than that one (6.5.4)... But I did all the stuff you asked and here are the logs:

First the vundofix log:

VundoFix V6.5.6

Checking Java version...

Java version is 1.5.0.11

Scan started at 2:00:31 17.7.2007

Listing files found while scanning....

C:\WINDOWS\system32\byxxurr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\crveuprr.dll

Beginning removal...

Attempting to delete C:\WINDOWS\system32\crveuprr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\crveuprr.dll Has been deleted!

Performing Repairs to the registry.
Done!

The problem has been that even though I was able to get rid of the winantiviruspro2007 and errorsafe popups earlier with the older version of vundofix I still keep getting these popups in finnish which have links to wixawin.com sites (dont worry I havent clicked any of them).. The problems started roughly last thursday when I woke up in the morning and went to my computer and F-Secure (my school provides it free-of-charge to students) had found a Win32.Trojan.Tiny or something like that and then I got loads of popups.. I did a full system scan after the cleaning of the warning and found nothing. Also I've done Ad-Aware full scans and installed Spybot S&D again and scanned with that too. But these "Win a PS3!" popups just wont go away..

Well looks like I'm not getting any popups now after some quick random browsing through my bookmarks but they seemed to come only every now and then. I will monitor the situation tomorrow since its 2:30 am here now and I need some sleep.

Hi

1 - Rename HijackThis
Using Windows Explorer, go to H:\download\haijäkthis\ folder
Right-click on HijackThis.exe and select Rename
Rename HijackThis.exe to reveal26.exe

2 - Scan for Vundo
Close your browser and any other windows that are opened and please print these instructions

Physically disconnect your computer from your modem/router and boot your PC into Safe Mode by restarting your computer - keep tapping F8 until the menu appears.
Use your up and down arrow keys to select Safe Mode.
We will continue your fix in Safe Mode.

To reduce the chance of AntiSpyware interfering with the fixes, please stop all antispyware on your computer. If you right-click on the icon in the systems tray you will find an option to ‘exit’. When you reboot, this will all return to normal.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run the tool.

Click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, right click inside the listbox (white box) and click add more files.
Carefully type the entry below into the top box:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\byxxurr.dll

Click Add Files and Click Close Window.
Click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the file, click YES.
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HijackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot; allow the computer to reboot and VundoFix to load.

DO NOT click "Scan for Vundo" again.
Just add the very same file as before and click Remove Vundo.

3 - Check on status
After you have completed the above, please reboot and provide:
  1. the vundofix.txt report
  2. a new HijackThis log - using reveal26.exe
Thanks
Vino

It may be helpful to know that when you put an item in your Trusted Zone, it pretty much has full access to your computer. Are you sure you trust this site to that degree? If you're not sure, and/or you do not need this in your trusted zone to facilitate access or you did not knowlingly permit this access yourself, then please fix the O15 entry.

Close all windows except HijackThis
Click Fix Checked in HijackThis.

2 - Clean Out Temporary Files
Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune © from >here<

  • Make sure that all browser windows are closed
  • Double-click the shortcut on your desktop to run the program.
  • Under Main, choose Select All
  • UNtick Prefetch
  • Click Empty Selected
  • If you use Firefox browser,

With the exception of your browser, keep ALL programs closed
Please do an online scan with >Kaspersky Online Scanner<. You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75%. Once the licence accepted, reset to 100%.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click Next.
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
+ Extended (If available otherwise Standard)
    o Scan Options:

  • Now click on the Save as Text button
  • Save the file to your desktop.
  • Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Before doing the fixes with hjt I need to ask a few things.. I believe the ALCMTR.exe is a process used by my soundcard which uses the Realtek drivers? So if I disable it wouldn't it affect my soundcard drivers?

And the oxygen_fixer.bat is something I've made and added there for a game editor for Operation Flashpoint. It works best installed on the root of a drive so I've used a subst command to create a virtual drive.

I will wait for a reply before doing the fixes. Thank you for your help and time!

Thanks for the information on oxygen_fixer.bat

ALCMTR.EXE is not the audio driver itself, it's an Event Monitor used to surreptitiously monitor your actions. It is not a sinister one, like remote control programs, but it is being used by Realtek to gather data about you.

Hi

OK, things are looking good :)

1 - Update Java
You are using an old version of Java. Sun's Java is sometimes updated in order to eliminate the exploitation of perceived vulnerabilities in an existing version. For this reason, it's extremely important that you keep the program up to date, and also remove the older more vulnerable versions from your system.
  • Download the latest version of Java by clicking >here<.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove ALL older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove ALL Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Using Windows Explorer, go to: C:\Program Files\Java and, in the Java folder, delete any folders like jre1.5.0_0x, if present.
  • Again, using Windows Explorer, go to: C:\Documents and Settings\Hotti\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache and delete all the content/folders in the cache folder.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u2-windows-i586-p.exe to install the latest version of Java.
2 - Delete Suspicious Files
Did you purposely download and install mIRC? If not, please delete the following files/folders:

C:\Program Files\mIRC <== Delete this folder

H:\download\Ohjelmat\mirc62.exe <== Delete this file

Empty the Recycle Bin by right-clicking the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop, and then clicking Empty Recycle Bin.

3 - Check on status
After you have completed the above, please provide:
  1. a final HijackThis log
  2. and how are things now?
Thanks
Vino

Great News! Your log appears clean of malware and here's some valuable information that will help to keep it that way.

1 - Delete Tools
The following files and folders were downloaded to help get rid of the malware on your PC. These can now be deleted as they are no longer required.
  • VundoFix.exe on your Desktop
  • C:\VundoFix Backups folder
  • H:\download\Ohjelmat\SmitfraudFix folder
  • H:\download\Ohjelmat\SmitfraudFix.exe
2 - All Clean
This is adapted from my general post for the 'All Clean' status however please advise on any problems you may still have before proceding with the following:-

a - Hide your System Files
These files are hidden to avoid accidental deletion so please follow these steps:

Click Start
Open My Computer
Select Tools > Folder Options > Select the View Tab
Uncheck Show hidden files and folders in the Hidden files and folders section
Select Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option
Click OK, OK

b - Reset your system restore points
This will remove any infected files that may have been backed up by Windows. Should you have problems, a tutorial is available >here<.
Please note that you need Administrator privileges to do the following:

Turn off System Restore
Start > right-click My Computer and select Properties
Click the System Restore tab
Tick Turn off System Restore
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer

Turn ON System Restore
Start > Right-click on My Computer and select Properties
Click on the System Restore tab
Click on C: drive then Settings
Untick Turn off System Restore on this drive
OK, OK

c - Make Internet Explorer more secure
From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Click once on the Custom Level button.
Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

Note: If you are using IE, you may want to consider changing Mozilla FireFox which is subjected to fewer malware attacks than IE however remember that you still need to use IE for certain sites like Microsoft Updates.

d - Windows Updates
Ensure you are registered for Windows updates via Start > right-click on My Computer > Properties > Automatic Updates tab or visit the Microsoft Update site on a regular basis.

e - Anti-Virus
It is important that your computer has anti-virus software installed and it is updated at least on a weekly basis. Further information and programs can be found >here<

f - Firewall
Using a Firewall in its default configuration greatly reduces the risk of your computer being hacked. Further information and programs can be found >here<

g - Hosts File
For added protection you may also like to add a host file, for more information regarding host files read >here<

h - WinPatrol
As a robust security monitor, WinPatrol will alert you to hijackings, malware attacks and critical changes made to your computer without your permission. WinPatrol takes snapshot of your critical system resources and alerts you to any changes that may occur without your knowledge. For more information, please visit >here<

i - Anti-Malware Programs (all free)
Next, if they're not already present, I would recommend the download and installation of some or all of the following programs, and the updating of them on a regular basis:I'd be grateful if you could reply to this post so that I know you have read it and, if you've no other questions, the thread can be closed.
